Some parents had their children's names picked out since they knew they wanted to be a mom. Others wait until they meet their lil fellas face-to-face before giving them a lifelong label. Often considered in the name game are the potential nicknames that can develop. William can quickly turn into Will, Bill, Willy or Billy but does a parent consider Mackenzie will turn into Mack? Whether you picked it out or not, does your child have a nickname?

Sophie: Sasha called her that from when she was named, because he couldn't properly say Sigrid, and it just stuck. That's how I got my nickname! My name is Jennifer. My dad insisted from Day 1 that I was Jennifer, not Jenny and definitely not Jen. My twin brother couldn't pronounce Jennifer, though...so I've been Jen ever since he learned how to talk. My daughter's name is Elizabeth, which has a million nicknames. We call her Liz, and she responds to Liz. If she decides she'd rather go by Elise or Lisa or Betsy or Tibbie or one of those million nicknames, I'll let her do it.

My oldest is Jhenna and I hate when my MIL calls her Jen. Next comes Tia - no nickname for that. We're considering Elle for our next if it's a girl - I like Ellie as a nickname.

I'm expecting and we don't know the gender yet but, my mother-in-law asked me if it was ok if she called our baby Snoopy if they're a little girl. I think it's the cutest nickname for a little girl ever. =D

Brody has a ton of nicknames. We call him Bubba, Bubba-boo, boo-bear, boo, baby boy, hubba bubba, and sometimes I'll call him pumpkin or punk.

my name, MyLyn (pronounce MY-LIN) was difficult for my brother to say so he called me Mymy. My family still calls me My or mymy always. I rather like it.

My daughter's name is Tatum, so she doesn't have any short forms for her name, but we do call her Tater or Tater tot pretty often :)

My 8-year-old, Alexander, goes by Sasha, which my husband and I decided on because we didn't particularly like Alex/Ali/Xander as a nickname. Our 6-year-old Sigrid is known by everyone as Tiggy. Sasha called her that from when she was named, because he couldn't properly say Sigrid, and it just stuck. Our 3-year-old twin girls are called Katrina and Mariette, but are known as Kit and Mazzy.

I have twin daughters named Luciana and Delila. We call they Lucy and Lila. I liked the names Lucy and Lila, but I didn't want them to have the cutesy-matching names on their birth certificates. Plus, I thought that once they are older they can decide if they want to go by Luciana, Lucy, Cici, etc. and Delila, Lila, Dee, etc. My name really couldn't be played around with that much when I went through my teenage "self-discovery" phase, and I hated that. My son, on the other hand, was named by his father, and there isn't much you can do with Sebastian, although our family usually calls him Sebby, and when he is older he may decide Ian is the way to go.

I abhore nicknames, if you want your child to be called something like "nick" or "Cam" name them nick or cam. not nicholas and cameron.

My daughters name is Kairi - pronounced ky-ree, so i don't really think there are going to ever be any nicknames. Kai is too much of a boys name, though her and her friends might try in junior high. I just cant see it being shortened much.

luckyme, I love the name Peyton for a girl! My baby girl is named Romy, which is actually a nickname for Rosemarie, made famous by a German actress. So we did it the other way around. I sometimes call her Rosemarie, but I'm really the only one who who does that.

My older son Tevin goes by T. Our 15 month old son is Tanner so we call him T2 but mostly Bubba. Yes yes LOTS of people hate that but I see it short for Baby Boy and I did the same with my first son but we stopped calling him that after a couple years.

Since my daughter was about a month old she's always like to move to music so I called her Boogie-Woogie, well the Boogie part stuck. Most people don't even call her by her real name just Boogie :)

Son, named Alexander is nicknamed Ali... only myself and a few close family members call him that.Most people call him Alex. Daughter, named Julia is usually called Jules. She HATES being called Julie, for some reason, even though it's the usual nickname for Julia.

Our first, Peyton, doesn't really have a nickname. Sometimes we call her 'P' for short, but that's about it. Our youngest, however, picked up her nickname almost immediately. Her name is London and Peyton couldn't pronounce it so she called her 'Lemon.' We still call her Lemon regularly and it's likely something that will stick for a long time (even though now Peyton calls her Lemdon).
