What Is Your Best Parenting Tip?

No parent has all the answers, but most moms and dads have a tip or two that they stand by and are willing to share. Some are tried and true methods while others are just logical thoughts that have yet to be proven. Whatever the case, we all learn from one another. What is your best parenting tip? Or what is a valuable one that someone passed on to you?

Don't be in a hurry, ever. It'll just frustrate you and your little one. (and as easy as that is to say, I still fail at it every now and then)

Be consistent....in everything. When you say no--mean no NOT maybe. When you say they are grounded--they are. If you promise a reward make sure you deliver. Nothing undermines parenting more than being inconsistent. When you never follow-thru you then become untrustworthy. When you make promises you don't keep-- you are untrustworthy. When you waver and give in...the kid owns you.If you may find yourself making excuses...you are teaching that. "Once in a while" is very different from "almost every time" and kids know that difference.While it may seem I gave several different parenting tips, each still comes back to being consistent. Being consistent makes you reliable--and that is a gift to teach a child that they will use in every part of their life.

A very important thing to know/remember.....YOU DON'T NEED ALL THE FANCY STUFF! There's so much out there marketed towards parents, and many people think that you need all of it and need it all before you have the baby and that it should all be new. So not true! So much of it is really used for a short period of time and takes a tonne of space to store it. Wait until you actually need something and see if you can pick it up used-like exercausers and swings and big highchairs! Most people need a crib, bassinette or playpen, and you do need a good carseat, but a lot of stuff is just a gimmic! There's much cheaper and easier ways of doing things.

I do have any kids, but I've been babysitting for over 4 years, but the best thing is to let the little things roll.
