Wee Are the World: Donorschoose.org

We've covered soup kitchens, adopting a family, and buying livestock to help support a family. Another way you can help out this holiday season is to donate at Donorschoose.org. The organization is set up to help fund projects in classrooms all across the country.

Teachers submit their proposal, which states the project's curriculum, materials needed, and the costs. Anyone can go on the site, pick a project, and donate to that cause. For example, a fifth grade teacher in Missouri City, Texas wants to sharpen her student's reading comprehension skills by using Hot Dots cards. The requested proposal costs $243. As a donor, you can choose to donate $1 or the entire amount.

You can be specific in your giving, too. Say you're an old student athlete and you want to donate to an athletic program, just go to physical education and find a project that sounds best to you and your lil one. You can also specify by state, cost, type of school, resources (books, DVDs, etc.) and grade levels.

Include your child in the task, by having them help choose where to donate your family's money.
