I was totally prepared - mattress protector, puppy pads in the car on the seat, towels on my sofa (just in case). An entire week after my daughter was due I woke up at three in the morning with bad stomach cramps - I thought it was food poisoning. So I went downstairs so I wouldn't wake up my husband. I'd had cramps for several months by then and they always felt like menstrual cramps so it never dawned on me that I might be in labor. I was watching television when I felt a little bubble pop and I stood up and ran to the bathroom where it all just gushed out. It was green from the meconium. I called my husband's cell phone and he came downstairs with thick pads to help me. I took my time and straightened up my house and took a shower before we went to the hospital. I would have gone straight there if I had known that green water was not good - my daughter was in distress and I never dilated more than 1/2 a centimeter. She was born by cesarean at 7 in the morning.

I woke up and felt like someone had plucked a bass string and then I started to gush. I jumped out of bed so it wouldn't get all over my mattress, and promptly fell on my behind on the floor. Husband was not amused, though I couldn't stop giggling. I stopped 15 hours later when I was in heavy labor, puking my brains out, contractions 4 minutes apart and was told I was at 1.5 cm.

Mine broke at home after labor had started and I was debating heading to the hospital already (had already showered and gotten dressed at 4 in the morning when it happened). It was uber-icky since I was more than a week late and there was meconium staining so I'm happy I followed my midwife's advice and had "puppy pads" on my bed. I was just sitting there debating whether to go, and gush. Saved my good sheets by using those pads. :)

error... it took three inductions for me to finally go into labor.

in the hospital on my delivery bed. i was one of the lucky ones i was induced. well maybe not so lucky because it took the inductions for me to finally go into labor......exhausting!

Mine broke In the bathroom. How convenient huh? However, the trip to the hospital wasn't fun. When the nurse brought the wheelchair, I stood up and all the fluid just started gushing. It was so uncomfortable, especially when a little boy kept staring at me, probably thinking I peed in my pants. :-)

Mine did a slow trickle one afternoon while at work. I was seriously not sure if it was my water or if I accidentally let out a little pee. I waited till after dinner and I was still feeling it so I was sure it wasn't pee and called the DR. He said to get my bag packed and head to the hospital. I was 3wks early. And was induced the next morning. What a shock that was.

First water was broken by the doc, I had that baby all natural - no epidural 2nd and 3rd water was broken by the doc after my epidurals. 4th water broke in the car while we were waiting for the train to pass and the RR crossing sign to be lifted lol, she came really fast.

They've always poked mine open at the hospital. I was at 8 cm with my daughter and it was still intact.

Ah my Mom's water broke (Yeah, I was coming!) while she was with my dad eating at a Ryan's family restaurant, and boy do I remember hearing how humiliating it was!

I have no personal experience with this, but I remember my step-mom's broke while she was taking her nap and she didn't have a mattress protector. Needless to say, she wished she had thought about one beforehand!
