When You Hear Multiple Pregnancy Do You Assume In Vitro?

Often times when parents announce they are pregnant with twins, whispers abound, "Do you think they did IVF"? Already US magazine is claiming, "It was In Vitro" in reference to Angelina and Brad's newest double addition. Next to join the dynamic duo parenting club, the expecting Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell. According to some reports, sources close to the couple are already debunking the inevitable suspicions of fertility aids like Clomid and IVF.

Methods of conceiving are really nobody's business but I wonder if hearing double pregnancy news automatically sparks the IVF question in your head. Do tell.

Never for twins. If they are a higher number of multiples, then yes. I conceived twins (naturally -- they run in my mother's side of the family) after wanting them desperately for a decade, but lost one to a partial miscarriage. But my son survived and is a thriving six month old; I am tremendously lucky -- things could have ended far worse. Mostly, when I see twins, I just feel wistful. :(

Who the hell goes around asking a woman a question like that??? RUUUUDE! i can see if another woman was asking because she is thinking about getting it, and was just trying to get some info...but even then. Who just bust out and says crap like that. That's like if you see someone driving a Mercedes and you asks them if they sell drugs in order to be able to afford it.

No. i don't ever think that when someone comes up pregnant. If they used in vitro, it's probably because they couldn't get preggers naturally...i'm usually just glad that they can have the gift of life. going there is kinda b*tchy...and with twins??? now if she got pregnant with 5 or 6, yeah. but then again, it's a blessing to that couple regardless of the endless crying and diapers. twins are in my family like crack is in Watts...no big deal.

it depends. It doesnt matter either way, in Vitro is a hard process for some just like doing it naturally so its a blessing either way.

dennis quaid. when women in their late 30's are trying for years and suddenly have twins; yes. i figure they used ifv. but i don;t feel guilty for it. i'm entilted to me opinion. i don't really care how someone because pregnant it just pops into my mind. it would never occur to me to ask! when you older 2 were under 5 they looked like twins and when i said they weren't people got this look on thir face, like i was a huge dissapointment to them, lol. weird.

I usually do think they did/used something if they have twins...especially if they are fraternal. I personally know a handful of women who were over 35 that did IVF or fertility drugs. Even though twins are fairly common, it is a bit odd that such a large amount of celebrities are having twins at the same time. You can add Marcia Cross and the couple whose babies got the wrong dosage of medication to the list of celebrity twin babies(can't remember the father's name but can see his face)

I usually think IVF if the mother is older. Normally I don't assume that though.

I have 4 kids, the youngest are 10 month old twins. I don't think there has been a day since they were born that someone hasn't asked if they were conceived naturally. They were, and while I no longer mind being asked I used to find that question very rude.

Sometimes, but it doesn't matter how conception happened. It's not like a mother is less of a woman because she couldn't conceive naturally.

As a mother of twins, this always ticks me off. I once had a woman stop me in the grocery store and told me what a blessing that I got two after having to try for so long. I was stumped and had no idea what she was talking about, then I realized that she assumed that we had months/years of fertility issues before having the boys. Honestly, people don't think before they speak sometimes. I get asked ALL THE TIME if I used fertility treatments. I didn't, but because my boys are fraternal, people look at me if I am lying. Also, FYI, one way to increase your chance of having twins is to be older. There is a much higher rate of twin births in women 35+ (with no fertility drugs).

for twins, no, for triplets maybe, but i know triplets conceived of totally natural means following two individual babies, so maybe not there either...but definitely for more than that

Of course I do! Especially with all of these celebs having twins. The twin fad. Weird. And when it is a woman over a certain age, of course. Yes. And I dont feel the least bit guilty about thinking this way either so ha!

I first wonder if it runs in the family, then I wonder if it was IVF. But regardless of how they conceived, I think having twins is exciting, though I'm glad I just have one because my lo tires me out.

i do think IVF right away if the women is older than 35. but i don't think this is bad...I don't feel "guilty" about thinking that. there is nothing wrong with wanting a child and using all the resources available to do so. I actually feel sorry for them..i know it is exhausting (my sister in law has twin boys). one is tiring for me!

Liss, all I can say is be prepared and open for anything with those statistics! I freaked out when I was pregnant with my second because there are so many twins in our families. My toddler boy was a handful at 2 yrs old, and twins (or more) would have been frightening and exhausting :faint: (probably more so for the hubby).
