When picking the perfect baby shower gift, givers often go for something that will impress the mama-to-be and other shower guests. While a trendy stroller or designer duds may make other attendees swoon, a gift doesn't need to cost a fortune to make a big impact.
Choose a favorite children's book – be it a classic or simply one of your tot's favorite tomes – and writing a heartfelt inscription in the cover. The thoughtful gift can easily become a family heirloom and may pave the way for future birthday gifts that complete the collection of books by the same author.

Love books as gifts! My mom got a gift at her shower (when she was pregnant with me) called something like "The Little Lamb" and it was inscribed "to michele, for her soon to be little lamb"
1I always appreciate books as gifts, especially if they are meaningful like this.
Not exactly this, but we do something similar for my son's birthdays. We choose a book that matches the theme of his party and ask the guests to write a greeting inside. It acts as a guest book so we can remember who was there, but it's also a really nice keepsake. I hope to continue this tradition!
2A book with a handwritten note is a great gift for all occasions!
3When 1 of our kids was born, friends of ours had one of those personalized books done and on the inside there was a small inscription with her name, birthday and who the book was from. It's a great keepsake and something I really wish we had for the other 2!
4i love this idea! one of my friends (who's a teacher) is having a shower in march, and they don't know the sex of the baby, so this would be perfect!!! any suggestions for books? my fave when i was little was "the giving tree", but i'm wondering if anybody has any other suggestions!
5snarky pants Maybe a classic like Winnie the Pooh. Fun for kids and grown ups. Doctor Seuss and PD Eastman are always good ideas. Or a picture dictionary. I'm sure if you just look around the kids' section of the bookstore, you'll end up with a bunch of other great ideas.
6thanks betty! i really like the winnie the pooh idea, and i totally forgot about PD Eastman!
7Thanks for the information! I've been meaning to start this process myself so this is a big help.
