Baby Gives Mom a Thumbs Up During Ultrasound

Periodic ultrasounds give expectant mamas peace of mind as they go through the 40-week journey of pregnancy. A fetus with two hands, two ears and two feet is one of the most reassuring images a mom-to-be can see, but what happens when the snapshot shows more?

A British woman recently came out of her 20-week sonogram with a message from her baby-to-be. During her scan, he gave her the thumbs up sign! During my 36-week scan with my first son, we saw enough hair hanging down the back of his head to make a ponytail. Have you had any ultrasound surprises?

As an ultrasound tech I see some wonderful things. The funniest though was when a fetus opened his mouth wide and stuck out his tongue...reminded me of Snoopy. That kid had a very long tongue. I had to take a break before I could continue the exam. It was hysterical.

I went with my sister-in-law to see her 3D scan. There my nephew was picking his nose!!! It was such a cute moment.

My Mom told me that I was sucking my thumb when she had an ultrasound. I sucked my thumb until I was probably 10 years old! :)

We asked to find out the gender and the u/s tech started laughing. We realized why when we saw my son playing with his scrotum and penis during the scan. I didn't realize it started that early!

We just had our anatomic survey ultrasound, and the baby was waving at us and showing us his spine.. he was clearly very proud of his spine :P

We went for the 18-week ultrasound for my first child, you know, the one where they tell you the sex of the baby. So the technician starts smiling - apparently, my SON was playing with himself - that's how we found out it was a boy! my boyfriend loved it ;)

All my kids had their legs crossed at their ankles at their 18 week ultrasounds which is exactly the way I was laying each time, as well as how you'll usually find me when I get the chance to rest for a few minutes!

My son also gave us a thumbs up during my 18-week ultrasound. At first we thought it might've been his index finger making a "#1" hand sign, but now we are quite sure it was a thumbs up, since that seems like it would require less coordination of a developing baby than the raised index finger would. Either way, he was sending us a message!

During my sister's 18 week ultrasound, my niece was sucking her thumb! We have the cutest picture of it, so we weren't surprised when she stuck that bad boy in her mouth after she was born :)
