Is the Twilight Series Appropriate For Children?

Is Twilight for tots? On the set of their new movie, Reese Witherspoon introduced Robert Pattinson to her children, Ava and Deacon Philippe. While everyone seems to know who the British heartthrob is these days, we wonder if the actress's children ages 10 and 6 have read or watched the series. Moms are dressing their infants in aspiring vampire attire, naming their babies for characters in the saga, and confessing their crushes on Pattinson, but do they also deem the books and movies (thus far rated PG-13) appropriate for their children?

Not that they'd even want to read something so utterly anti-climactic in the first place.

Err....the 3rd and 4th are totally inappropriate! As a 26 year old i loved them, but far too steamy, wouldnt want any 6 year old of mine watching the later films! (and i say that as a fan) Louise

Wow, Dean Koontz in 1st grade? Freaking heck, MissSushi, you must be a bloody genius! I was still reading the Rainbow Reading Series (our school books) in first grade. Although I did love me some Sidney Sheldon, but not till I was about 12! As far as Twilight - it depends on the kids. There are some that are more mature and better readers, and that would be fine, but for others - not so much. I think the last Harry Potter book is too mature and scary for some kids. It's like everything to do with children, it's impossible to make a blanket rule. Each mom knows her kid(s) best and would - hopefully - base decisions on that kid.

i will admit im pretty easy going about book content.. but then again, so was my mom, i was reading dean koontz and similar in 1st grade and romance novels by 5th,

I took my 7 year old nephew to see New Moon. He's team Edward. ha I think it's fine for kids. Despite a bit of mild violence, it comes across as rather wholesome.

I agree, the first few were okay but the 3rd and 4th are starting to cross the line of inappropriate. It's not really PG if you ask me. I don't know though, they gear it for kids so unless I had read it first (and it took me a long while to read it now, and I'm not as busy as moms), I'd let my pre-teen girl read it - before I read it I had no idea it wasn't a book for young girls. But now I see the inappropriate bits.

Maybe the first few books are okay for younger tweens, but the 4th book is sooooo not okay for kids. As an adult, I am curious to see how they will turn it in to a PG-13 movie without shocking the world. I think alot of things are going to be left out, if you know what I mean :)

as far as the nearly tweens, i think it depends on the child/nearlyteen. I would have been fine with it, my sisters not so much. Twilight isn't really inapropriate in any way unless you're hiding your kids from all mythological creatures though. It's pretty pg.
