I'm still not ready to have kids for a few years, but reading Carri's comment kind of scared me.....can u explain the mesh underwear, huge pads and mass amounts of blood? (does that happen in all births? I'm wondering why i've never heard of this before....)

My two babies were completely different - the first a natural drug free birth, 10 days late and we were home 4 hours later. The second, a planned c-section 1 week before the due date and we were in the hospital for a week. Neither of them were done by the doctor I was registered with either.

@ Starbucks... That's exactly how I was!! I thought, Man this is easy. Who knew the aftermath would be so hard on me. But yes, it could have been a lot worse. My best friend just had twins last week and nearly died.

I got so lucky with labor and delivery. We were at the hospital at 11pm and only 3 hours later she was there! Obviously it still hurt as hell, but it could have been a lot worse!

I had planned a home birth, but ended up in the hospital when I never went into active labor DAYS after my water broke. I wasn't expecting that I would *never* dilate, even with all the drugs and softeners. Definitely wasn't expecting the c-section, the hard recovery, not being able to hold my baby after the birth, not being able to walk for weeks, the pain. Maybe I am just bitter because I wanted to stay at home, but just didn't work out.

I wrote about this very thing in my blog. The books and hospital want you to believe that everything is going to be fine and dandy, but it almost always ends up in chaos. I had a very short L&D (they broke my water at 11am and I had my son at 11:32) but nobody told me about the mesh underwear, the huge pads, and the mass amounts of blood.

Some of those options didn't apply to those of us who chose to give birth at home. We're a growing number :)
