A baby's bottom may be the epitome of softness, but the tender skin can be pretty sensitive when suffering from diaper rash. The prickly red dots can wreak havoc on a newborn and send mama searching for remedies. Before purchasing fancy potions, check out these all natural (inexpensive) treatments.

switching diaper brands is something to try too. My babe had to go to the Dr for her rash caused by the brand of diapers. We have since switched to cloth, since she seems to be more prone to rashes anyways. We also use the cloth wipes and an all natural bum cleaner.

We use this all natural bum spray from a local company, but you can find it online also. It's amazing! Whenever I'm out and don't feel like hauling our cloth wipes with us, I use the spray and a dry wipe to clean, but we use a spritz of it with every diaper change and it's been wonderful! It heals diaper rashes if one happens and prevents them when there's not. My oldest had a lot of problems with rashes and this was the best thing for us. check out allthingsjill and see their bottoms up bum spray. I'm sure there's other similar products available also.

i don't wipe my babyboy's bum if the diaper is only full of pee. though if he hasn't pooped for a couple of diaper changes, which occasionally happens, i wipe his cute little bum just to refresh. never had any problems, never used any creams.

Please try this. This is my first post on any board, but wanted to share with other mommys. Rinse off wet wipes with warm water. Then apply coconut oil (can be found in organic type grocery stores). Allow it to dry (apply generously). It will actually soothe and heal the rash naturally. Then apply the VERY expensive triple cream (large tub is about 17 dollars at Target/Walmart). THIS IS THE ONLY barrier cream that worked and protected the acid from urine and bowel movements. It is soothing, and does not produce heat to the rash like desitin, etc. The rash will be gone in a few days, but better immediately. Babies will not cry from the application of EITHER, and you will feel so much better (less helpless). Also bathe them in oatmeal bath to heal. Good luck. YOU MUST GET THE COCONUT OIL TOO AS THIS IS THE PRIMARY HEALING REMEDY THAT WORKED.

THANK YOU for suggesting, first and foremost, that parents should simply skip the baby wipes (as well as lotions, powders, etc.) Based on my experiences with my own baby as well as all the stories I've heard from lots of other parents, I'm convinced that products such as these cause rashes. It seems that they even cause the majority of diaper rashes... I know it's tempting to want to use chemical wipes on a really dirty bottom, but as the first poster noted, water truly is best. (Sometimes we use fragrance-free bar soap, to really get him clean -- I'm not saying that you can never use soap. Just use it judiciously.)

You really should have mentione breast milk! It doesn't get more natural than that! Apply breast milk to your baby's bum and let it dry. Worked wonders for us!

i used baby wipes for the first couple of months but after two diaper rashes I decided that i would just wipe him with a wet paper towel (patting very lightly) after he did #1 and actually rinse him in water if he did #2 and we haven't had a rash ever since. Its great b/c my son goes on a schedule most of the time so I try to be somewhere that i can accommodate him so that I can wash him- mostly home though. I know it sounds like its too much at first but if your good with routine you'll get used to it real fast. My son is now 19 mnths and he really likes that we wash him after he poops. he tells us he wants/needs to be washed.
