Family Has Nanny Sit in Separate Section of Airplane?

There's a lot of nanny business going on! Kourtney Kardashian recently blogged about traveling with her son, Mason, and referenced the fact that her family sat in a different section of the plane than the babe's nanny. She wrote:

Also, I noticed a comment on one of my previous blogs about how I sent Mason to the back of the plane to sit "with the masses." I did have a nanny traveling with us on this trip, because my mom and I were flying to Chicago for a work appearance. Mason was a little bored with being in the same spot with us for four hours and wanted a change of scenery, so we had him hang out with the nanny for 10 minutes.

Airline tickets are pricey, so do you think it's understandable if parents purchase a less expensive ticket for their nanny?

I think that if you have a kid, you should be the one raising it. If you wanted a kid so bad, or did the deed to have one, take responsibility for it. This whole question is a nice reminder of how sad our society is.
If the family can afford it, then yes, the nanny should sit with them in first class. There's nothing wrong with coach. It's where I've always been on a plane. But, separating your nanny from the family sort of says "you don't belong with us". Or maybe that's being too sensitive. I don't know. It's a good question though.
I have worked as a nanny, and I would have felt that sitting alone in coach would have been a nice break (even if the kid or kids came visiting). On those two occasions I did fly with the family I was working for, I flew coach, once with the whole family and once where the mothe and baby sat up front, but they didn't pay for their own ticket.

It's a little... classist, I think, to sit in first class while your nanny sits in coach. It's not like they can't afford to get her a seat in first !

Seriously? Who cares? It's coach, it's not like she's making her sit in the cargo hold or something. Coach seats are good enough for the rest of us, I always fly coach and never complain. First class is really nice but its an unnecessary expense, especially on a flight that's only 4 hours long. Anyway, it sounds to me like Kourtney kept the baby in first class with her for the most part which, honestly, probably gave the nanny a chance to relax and have some time to herself.
I think anything Kourtney Kardashian does is disgusting, including breathing and existing, so I feel for her nanny. That being said, if it were me and I could afford it, I would seat MY nanny in first class. Take care of the person who takes care of your kid. Honestly, IF you can easily afford it, it's common sense. Now if flying first class for me was a special treat, and we happened to be bringing the nanny along, I might suggest if she wished, she could make up the difference in a coach seat and first class seat, since I'd be paying for the coach seat to begin with. Or something. It would really depend on where we were going, what we were doing and why the nanny was coming with us plus our relationship with said nanny.

I agree, the Kardashian's can afford it, so it's a little rude to make her sit behind...but if you truly can't afford it, then fine. She is technically an employee and you're buying her a seat, just not a crazy upgraded seat.

I think it's a little odd. You trust this person with the most precious thing you have yet buy her a coach seat? If I had the $ for a nanny I would hope I would treat her a little more like family and not a disposable employee.
My parents always sat coach with us while we were very young, but as soon as we were 6 or so and old enough to be well-behaved on our own they started flying first class while we flew coach. I don't think it's that strange for people in the same group to be splitting up...

That's absolutely understandable. And I am pretty sure the nanny didn't give a hoot about where she was sitting. She probably makes more than 99% of all other nannies in this world, so I doubt she worries about a plane ticket upgrade.
