Well all the suggestions are "fine" if they work for your child. None are surefire.

Nursing necklaces are fine if your kid doesn't want to chew it instead of feeding. One of the things that worked best for me with my 3rd was when she went through a very distracted phase, I'd sit her on my lap facing me to nurse. She was able to eat and still look around and see she wasn't missing the whole world around her. None of my kids would ever put up with being covered to nurse, and going to a "quiet" place away from everything was impossible when youlive in a 1000 sqft house with 2 other kids, a dog and your husband!

A little bit of research will give you dozens of sites to suggest where you can have custom made nursing necklaces, or how to make your own. Even a regular durable necklace will be fine.
