You know you're a mom when _______ :
"You go into the bathroom to have two minutes to yourself."
The best trick my mom taught me was _______:
"My mom had a tradition that whenever she made a pie, she would — you know, for the vent hole? — she would carve in the initials of the person she was baking the pie for. I still do it today, and it's usually the initials of my daughters."
I wish someone had told me _________ about motherhood:
"I remember when I had my first baby, everyone told me how hard labor was, but, gosh, I can do anything for 22 hours! I wish someone had told me how hard the first six to seven weeks would be. Because everything turns around by week eight, right? It's such a magical turnaround, and once I knew it would end, it made the birth of my next daughter so much easier."
Are you a helicopter or free-range mom?
"My goal is not to be a helicopter mom, and I do believe in giving my daughters choices, and letting the consequences of those choices be their guide and teacher, rather than just having them listen to me just because I said it. So I think I'm probably more free-range, but that said, I'm very careful about managing the perimeter. I'm going to go with free-range with the caveat that I can manage the size of the range and the environment around them."
