Tights For Boys: Ga Ga or Gag?

Mommies wouldn't balk at the sight of tights in the girls' section but what if she saw them hanging near the boxers and briefs? Ladies enjoy the comfort and warmth they provide so why shouldn't their male counterparts? In the Victorian era, men wore tights regularly just like their lady friends. Perhaps in an effort to bring a blast from the past, the Swedish clothes manufacturer H&M is bringing tights back in a whole new way.

The $12 pair of navy car adorned stockings may have some mums and pops looking confused or horrified. Still some may find them practical and brilliant.

What's your take on them?

Ummm, fabric will not make you "gay" America. So many people freak out about tights. Why is so much weight given to a non-subject. All the "issues" are between your ears.
I am living in Eastern Europe and winters are really cold. Last weeknight it was -30 C cold. And yes! I am wearing tights on my 4 year old son. And it is not nothing weird, every kid in kindergarten wears them under pants.

people are so narrow-minded. so what, they are just tights, for god's sake. boys all over the world wear tights. and no, it won't make him gay. it is only fabric, is it any different than thermal underwear, except that it is far more comfortable and practical?
The people against it are being a little silly, or behind the times. Ever see under armor? If the under armor "pants" are not tights, then I dont know what they are. Having worn tights in plays, and under armor for running, I can tell you - they are the same thing. Too much stigma in the world.
Wow, this must be one of those topics that Europeans and Americans differ on. I'm from Europe and here it gets COLD during winter, and I can promise you that every child under the age of 4 (and even older) is wearing tights 99% of the time during winter! I've never even thought about it being a gender thing. For me, tights for women and tights for children are two separate things!

My mom gave me a pair of pants for my son that were my brother's. They were unlined and itchy and I asked how my brother ever wore them. She said she put my old tights on him under the pants and they kept him warm. I never would have thought of that (nor did I do it), but I definitely understand the practicality of it.
I live in Europe and everyone here puts tights on their boys, myself included. It's simply a way of keeping them warm in the winter months! I don't see why anyone would make such a big deal...
What's the big deal? They are for warmth. I would put my son in tights and a t-shirt in the winter. (If I had a son, which I don't yet) People in Iceland do it. And I think tights are for toddlers, not older boys.

" however, i can only imagine these underneath pants when its cold, like at a ski lodge? but if they were footless maybe as comfy lounge wear? however the tightness at the groin is a bit revealing for my taste, but then a long shirt to cover it might not look that nice either. confused!
I put tights on my 2 yr old son when we went sledding last winter. I put an old pair of his sisters brown tights under his snowpants, they worked great and he wasn't so bulky and padded that he couldn't move.
Inside the sleeper? I've never had that happen, and I'm in a cold climate and never blast the heat, I hate even using the heat so in cold months I put it as low as possible for everyone else's comfort. The few times I've put socks on under a sleeper, they stay put better than if I'd put shoes over them. You got awfully touchy about two simple valid questions, and pretty narrow in your views of why someone might ask. I'm ok with being accused of playing into stereotypes. I wouldn't put skirts and hairbows on my infant/toddler sons either.

because its cold in some climates and not everyone blasts the heater? They work their way down and come off.. not exactly a hard concept, really.
How are your socks falling off with footed sleepwear? Why even wear socks with footed sleepwear?

It could be an extra layer under pants on really cold winter days. I think it's fine. Unusual, because we never see it, but it's not such a big deal if they're gender neutral.

My brother had tights as a baby and toddler. Even red ones : :D : My mom thought they were practical and kept him warm. I don't know, it doesn't weird me out. I live in Finland and here it can get really cold at winter. With tights you don't have to worry about bare ankles showing when the socks get loose.

i probably wouldnt put my son in tights, but i noticed that when he had jeans on he was chaffed btwn his legs...this would stop that.
tights are for under dresses and skirts. Unless you are dressing your lil man in them why would put tights on him? Its called pants.
Exactly. Unless your son is wearing shorts in the winter, tights are pretty silly. And these aren't only ugly, they're horrible overpriced, especially for H&M.

Isn't that why they make feetie pajamas? So you don't have to worry about socks falling off of tiny toes? The main purpose of tights is to cover bums under dresses and skirts not to keep feet warm. It seems silly. Besides, these are pretty ugly.

Lil boys wear tights here all the time...what's wrong with that? They're comfy and keep you warm. Socks fall off little baby feet anyways! Maybe not for a 10 year old. But for babies and toddlers it's great!

Hmm. I'm all for gender equality and girls doing things that are only meant for boys, and vice versa, but I just don't think I could do the tights thing!
