Did You Put Your Baby Plans on Hold For Your Career?

The tug of war between family and work can be challenging. Some women are anxious to get pregnant as soon as they find a partner to procreate with, while others enjoy couples life and pursue career goals before settling down to a life of three or more. Such is the case with Tiffani Thiessen and her hubby of four years. On the subject of babies, the 35-year-old White Collar actress recently said:

We’ve talked about it, but the show started, so we’re going to wait and try to figure out when the best time is. . . . I don’t want to spring a pregnancy on a brand new show that I just got on.

Did you put your family planning on hold for your career or vice versa?

it's definitely hard when you're a celeb - you really have to put things in perspective more so than in other places. i hope that she's able to have a child soon though. for me - my career didn't really weigh in too much. i am stable in what i do and i will be after i have my kids. :)

No. I see nothing wrong with it, we just didn't choose to plan our own family that way. I have never planned to be a career woman, and my husband was able to further his career/education and still be very involved, so things worked out well for us.

I see no issue with working to establish your career before having kids. However, at some point, the reality of biology sets in and you realize that there is a finite amount of time during which you can have a child while you can focus on your career at any time. You could go to law school at 65. You cannot, except in the most rare cases of freak science, conceive a child at 65. Therefore, if having a biological child is important to you, I think around 35 (when biology begins to take its toll), that pursuit should probably take precedence over your career (not forever, but for a little while).

Yup. We got married when I was still in law school, so I knew we would have to wait until (1) I got my JD, and (2) passed the Maryland Bar, and (3) got settled into my legal career.

Yes, I put my life on hold as I pursued my doctorate, within two years of finishing, I moved in with my BF, got married, and am now TTC :) . Thankfully everything fell into place, but if you're female it's very difficult to have a baby during grad school (especially in my male dominated field)
