Thomas Beatie Is Pregnant Again!

Thomas Beatie, the man who gained fame by giving birth to a baby girl with his wife, Nancy, is expecting again. He told Barbara Walters that this baby is due on June 12, almost a year after his daughter, Susan, was born. Congratulations to the growing family.

I actually think YOU are "disguuuuusting" ivanka, for being intolerant and bigoted.Rather than repeat what she said, I'll just refer to GlowingMoon's post. One can be female biologically and identify as a man.And no, of course I can't say "I identify as a butterfly, therefore I am a butterfly" --- but Gender Identity Disorder is real and in the DSM IV (I think IV).

WOW you guys are so hateful and judgemental it is really disgusting. I'd actually looked back on some of the expecting posts and none of accused Angelina Jolie or Jennifer Garner of being a media whore when they announced their pregnancy. If these children are growing up in a loving environment, then you guys should let them be. I saw the Barbara Walters interview and she showed all the hatemail she recieved. I really couldn't fathom anyone going out their way to be so cruel, but once I read all of these comments I understand. It is really sad.I think I feel sorry for your children more than his because they are going to grow up being just as cruel as you guys are.

I'm in the minority, too. Personally, I don't see this as disgusting. Also, for me, it's easy for me to identify him. BIOLOGICALLY, he's a female. I define biology by his DNA. Clearly, he was XX chromosomes. Just because he had his breasts removed, they're still encoded in his DNA. The blueprint (for breasts, and other female parts) is still there. This is partly why he is capable of being pregnant (a female biological role). He had kept is reproductive, female system. GENDER, he's male. Gender is defined by behavioral and cultural traits. So is he male or female? It depends on the angle. Most of us are consistently female or male in both biology and gender. However, there are some who have a foot on both sides. Again, personally, I don't understand the uproar and confusion over him. In my point of view, this is a no-brainer. JMHO.

And, skigirl, that Thomas identifies himself as a male. I don't understand (well, I do, but it still disgusts me) all the uproar. Two people love each other and want to bring children into their lives. Much better than a 13 year old crackwhore getting knocked up, no? The media attention is something else, but again, I don't see how it's any different than celebrities whoring out their baby's first pictures to gossip rags.

kmattes, You are right in many ways. I think the problem so many of us have with this situation is NOT that He is transgendered. It's not that he's having a child. It's the fact that he's being SO public about it. Our concern (Or at least my concern) is for the children. I think this is going to cause them long term harm. Is it possible I'm wrong? YOU BET, and in fact I sincerely hope that I am. But truly, in the society in which we live today, this man and his family will be ridiculed. Sure Mr. & Mrs. Beattie can probably cope with this. They've gone through therapy, and are prepared for the ridicule that is bound to come their way. But what about the kids? They have no choice in this. If he had done this, and been very quiet about it and just went on his merry way, it wouldn't be so bad. Yes, the kids would still have to deal with ridicule, but not on this grand of a scale. As it is now, the entire world is going to know. It's hard enough for kids growing up with what are considered 'normal' issues (shyness, sensitivity etc) but to add something like this to the mix could have some very long term negative effects.

Skigurl: Ahem, my name is Susan, and I am not a mother. (I'm 20). Though, no offense taken, I never had to share my name with anyone though in school, I've always been the only Susan in my class. It is a 70's name. My Dad was determined to name a girl Susan, even if it took my parents until they were 40 to have a girl to name Susan. But, on topic. I agree with others. Thomas is a woman with a male appearance. He has female innards.
