Mother-In-Law or Nanny Watch Your Babe?

My mother–in–law, whom I adore, just visited us for a long weekend. She loves our babe and is always eager to spend every second with her.

As I work on Fridays, my babe usually spends the afternoon with her nanny. But since "Mimi," as we call her, was here and available, she offered to watch my babe and give the nanny a paid day off.

This situation got me thinking, would you prefer to have your sitter or mother-in-law watch your tot?

Nanny! I would die before I let my future MIL have that much control! If you knew her you would understand... My mom, on the other hand, I would have no problem with. She respects my decisions enough not to undermine them.

I have a hard time letting anyone other than my mother babysit. My MIL doesn't live close enough to know my daughter well-enough to sit for her, whereas my mom watches her a few days every week while I'm at work. My MIL is kind and enamored of my daughter, but she has said some weird things that, if she lived close by, would make me hesitant to entrust her with my daughter and I would feel less comfortable than I do when my daughter is with my mom.

I'm lucky enough to have my MIL watch my little guy full time. You can't beat it!

i would rather have family, depending on your relationship with them of course. Mine is awesome, and she would bring so much into a childs life.

I think it depends on the situation, and your relationship with your MIL in order to make that decision. I actually have my MIL to watch our little girl two days a week. It is rather nice to have her available to do this.

Hmmm...this is a tough one. I trust my MIL and she's very respectful of our judgment. Besides, she raised a very fine man, so she knows what she's doing. At the same time, it might be easier to tell hired help that you want something done differently than to tell family. :ponder: I still think I'd rather entrust my children to a loved one than a nanny.

I have tried both, and in reality the Nanny way works better for us. An independent 3rd party, she follows what my rules and values are, and doesnt' undermine my judgement based on "this is how i did it with my son and he is just fine" attitue

It really depends on if you want your mother-in-law around that much... I know if this mother-in-law was my mother, she may interject her option on how to raise the child a bit too much... maybe give ask if the nanny would work every other day or let the mother-in-law watch the child once a month.
