Tell Mommy: Who Was in Your Labor Room During Delivery?

Some women want their entire family to experience the miracle of their child's birth from the hospital room, while others would prefer relatives sit it out in the waiting room. Regardless of how you feel, as the mama-to-be the decision is all yours. If you're not having a c-section, you can typically have whoever you want in the labor and delivery room with you. Who did you invite?

i havn't had any babies of my own bt i know i definately want my boyfriend there !!! .... i guess my mum too bt im nt sure lol ... i know my boyfriend is gonna be so scared he's probably gonna want his mum there as well bt we'll see if im up to her being around aswell lol

I had a lot of people - lol! Husband, 2 doulas, 2 midwives, 1 l&d nurse, my mom, my sister, my stepmom, and my husband's stepmom. We would have had my MIL as well, but she couldn't get off work (I delivered at 3:20pm). I had 2 doulas and 2 midwives because the ones I'd hired were both training others. My doulas did a great job - they kept the family out until I was pushing and made sure they kept quiet so I wouldn't get anxious from having an audience. I barely noticed they were there! I do think next time it'll be just hubby, doula, midwife, and nurse, not because I didn't like having family there, but because I'd like to have that to ourselves next time.

I am due in May, and the only person I will allow there will be my husband. No one will be informed that I've gone into labor since I don't want any "nosy" unexpected visitors. My husband originally wanted his mom there, but there is no way I am comfortable with that (nobody besides the staff in my DH needs to see me with my legs up in the air while I am screaming in pain). My family and his family will be informed after the birth.

My husband wasn't allowed in for my first emergency c-section because it was so sudden. The room and utensils hadn't even been fully sterilized yet. We don't need a certification to be in the room under most c-section circumstances though.

Just my husband--I wouldn't have wanted anyone else, and as it turned out, I had a C-section so only my husband would have been allowed in anyway. In fact, at my hospital, my husband had to take a short class to be able to be in the room during a C-section. I wasn't planning on a C-section, but we took the class just in case. But then they didn't ask for the certificate, and I can't imagine them telling a husband in an unexpected C-section that he couldn't be there.

Originally it was just supposed to be my husband but after we found out it was twins I asked my mom to be there too. And I will have her come for any other children we have. Its such a great experience to share and they are a ton of help! I actually had to ask one of the intern guy doctors to leave cause I felt uncomfortable but then had 3 doctors and a dozen nurses when I finally delivered.

i haven't had any babies yet, but i was in there along with my mom and my sister's boyfriend when she gave birth. it was AMAZING! i recorded the whole thing and took pictures and everything. when i do give birth, i want my boyfriend, mother, and sister in the delivery room. i saw how helpful my mom was to my sister and i really want her in there with me.

when i delivered my daughter - my husband, mom, sister, grandmother, grandfather, aunt & her husband. my son, only my husband was there.....my grandma waited in the waiting room with my daughter.

I wanted no one but my husband- much to the chagrin of my mother and grandmother. DH decided to call the ILs and tell them when I was induced, so they wound up showing up. I felt bad, so called Mom and Granny. They (except FIL, he was cool) treated labor like it was a sporting event and sat and watched and chatted with each other, invited random people in that I didn't know who happened to be at the hospital visiting others, etc. My mom even walked in without knocking while I was getting my catheter for the epidural (even my Nurse was shocked.) My Midwife could tell I was distressed and told everyone to leave. THANK GOD for her. :) This time, I'm going to have a doula, just so SHE can deal with that nonsense.

I don't think I'll want anyone but my husband there. My mom is too far away and I don't think I want my MIL to see me like that. I'm find with friends/family/whoever coming in while I'm in early labor, but during delivery ... I'll stick to folks who have seen that part of my body before, thanks.

Just my hubby! We actually forgot to even call anyone and tell them we were at the hospital delivering. I have no idea how that happened but it did! We made all phone calls after she came.

We're limited to two people here, but I never wanted anyone but my husband no matter how I give birth. Anyone else would've made it more stressful rather than helpful.

It was supposed to be just my husband, but my mom ended up being there too. I don't know what I would have done without her. My husband became so fascinated by what was happening that he kept forgetting about me! My mom kept reminding him to pay attention to his wife. It was funny!

Because it was our first, I decided I wanted just me and my husband in the room during the actual delivery of my daughter. However, my best friend as well as my sister-in-law were in the room during labor to lend moral support to me and entertain my hubby (since I was not in any condition to do so).

My mom and my husband were with me through most of the labor, and my mother-in-law joined us toward the end. It was great having them all there. I'm sure they were totally creeped out by the pushing, and everything that goes with it, but they never showed it on their faces.

For my first, I had my husband, mother, and two sisters. For my second, I had a home birth that went super fast, so no sisters made it, but my mom was there to watch my son and of course my husband was there.

i had my husband and mom for both deliveries and two friends in addition, at my first delivery. it was practically a party! considering how modest i am, it was totally uncharacteristic of me. but when you factor in all the other strangers who get a look at your business, it was actually nice to really know a few of them.
