Tell Mommy: Did You Watch the Inauguration With Your Child?

I remember being in school and watching our nation's leaders take their oaths of office on the classroom television. Both my children were born during former President Bush's second term so Barack Obama is the first newly elected president they will know. I stayed home to watch his inauguration with my son, 2, and daughter, 4. As an adult, it's amazing to watch history being made and for my kids, this is just the incredible world they will grow up in. Did you make a point to watch the inauguration with your children?

i don't have children of my own, but we made a point at school ( I teach 2nd grade) to have the students watch the swearing in and the speech.

No.My daughter was in school at the time (she's 7) but she did get to watch the ceremony in her classroom on the teacher's laptop.

I know I'm just been negative nancy, but I think that people who dragged their children to DC to stand out in the freezing cold were just trying too hard to be "a part" of history. We are all a part of this historical moment just by being alive.

Yes, but just the speech and swearing in. She's only 19 months old, but I want to be able to tell her she saw it. We did teach her to say "Obama" last night too. That's pretty cute.

I rushed my son home from school just in time to see the swearing in. He is just about 3 and, though he didn't really understand the significance of the event, he recognized Obama immediately and spent the rest of the day asking to watch him again. He really loved seeing the parade afterward - and I caught him standing with his toy saxaphone next to the TV to imitate the bands!
