Did You Try Your Own Breast Milk?

It is a strange thing that humans drink milk extracted from goats and cows, but not their own homemade dairy products. I have no interest in consuming fluids that my body emits — even if I willingly give it to my child.

While I was curious to know what my daughter drank exclusively for the first six months of her life, I was not inquisitive enough to actually taste the milk. Many moms are unfettered by the stigma and give it a swig test without hesitation.

my husband drinks mine when it is about to leak so that i will not get wet!!!hahaha try it my husband says it tastes sweet but i cant get my boob in my mouth to try it!!!!!!

Also, cow's milk is LOADED with hormones. It's a strong possibility that it's the reason girls are starting their periods and developing earlier than ever. I drink cow's milk, I have no problem with it. I just think it's an amusing contradiction to say that human milk isn't healthy but cow's milk is.

I don't see what the big deal is at all! I totally agree with kmckay, why isn't weird to drink cow's milk. Human milk is for humans. Anyway, along with everyone else's, mine was very sweet.

I agree kmckay. I don't get why swigging breastmilk is gross but not cow's milk. I'm also really annoyed by the post in the linked "swig test" thread that states that the hormones and vitamins in breastmilk are bad for adults. They're not at all. The immunities, vitamins, etc have been shown to help many adults as well.

most humans i know think its "gross" to drink human breast milk but don't think twice about drinking another species breast milk! i have a hard time wrapping my mind about that- mammals produce milk naturally to feed and nourish THEIR young. i bet if people started thinking more about what they put in their own bodies and where (and how) it came from, their diets would change.

It's very sweet. I was actually surprised that my son would take a bottle of formula so easily after only have breastmilk for so long. The hubby liked it to. If I still could he would probably make me make him some pancakes with it too ;-)

Kate, how do you know it was spoiled if nothing happened? Frozen and then thawed breastmilk tastes different from regular breastmilk and often has a different texture as well. It's normal for it to look "grainy" and leave a residue on the bottle. And it often smells and/or tastes a little soapy.I've made a bunch of stuff with extra pumped milk but would never give it to anyone without telling them. I used it for pancakes and stuff.

I didn't want to- I have a bit of a milk-phobia, but my husband convined me to dip and finger in and try a drop. Very sweet.I completely agree with you Evalicious, you have to know when it has gone bad. I had been giving my son milk that I pumped, froze and thawed, and for some reason it was spoiled when I thawed it and I was giving it to him. :(Nothing bad happpened and he drank it up, but it's a bad feeling.

I tasted a few drops and it tasted like cereal milk. Like after you have a sweet cereal and you drink the milk when your done.

I tried it, though a "swig" is definitely overstating it. More like a couple drops. It was sweet, but not in a good way, imho.

Yes, it is sweet. Yes, drinking cow milk or goat milk is strange. Milk is for babies! Read the recent bestseller "skinny bitch" if you want to know more.

I tried mine, just put some on my fingertip directly from my breast and it's sweet.

I did. I wanted to know what my child was ingesting. Breast feeding is a little blind in that you have know idea what color it is supposed to be or how it is supposed to smell. No one tells you those things - well, it can be any number of colors, and smells all kinds of different ways and is easily influenced by the colors, textures and tastes of the food that you ingest. It's SWEET, grossly sweet. Which is different from formula - very gross with a nasty texture. I only tasted it once, and now she's moved on to Gerber foods, which I always taste before I feed to her (what if she eats something that is bad?).

Okay- here is a gross story: My sister works in the baby unit at a hospital and all the nurses got together for a pot luck. One lady brought brownies and waited until the end when all her treats were gone to tell everyone that she had made them with her own milk! If you want to drink your own milk go ahead, but tricking people into drinking yours is so so so wrong. I still get all freaked out thinking about it.
