Name Brand Threads or Makes No Difference?

Growing up, I remember begging my parents for a pair of Guess jeans when they were all the rage.

These days, you see babies decked out in True Religion, Joe's Jeans, Juicy Couture and other designer duds that all cost a pretty penny.

Of course, the babes look darling in their "couture" threads, but wouldn't they look just as cute in less expensive outfits?

How much do you care about labels?

I buy my girls the expensive stuff because I buy it for myself! My kids deserve the best as long as I can afford it all. I am lucky though because my kids are Triplet girls born at only 2 pounds each. They haven't been growing as fast as I thought so most of their clothes last a long time, sometimes until the next year/season. Even so, the little one gets all the hand me downs!

I personally think it's ridiculous and more for the parent than anyone. I think it's a waste of money unless you plan on keeping them as hand-me-downs for other children and are buying for quality. Even then most cheaper brands do. I buy most of my kids clothes from Old Navy, The Childrens Place and Gap and Carters outlets. They ruin or grow out of them too quickly.

My child wears name brand clothes bought on sale and at the local thrift stores as well. I like the quality of the clothing plus he wears collars everyday.

Seems like some of the more expensive clothes are made better. They don’t shrink as much and don’t get thready or pilly (is that a word?). They grow out of the clothes so quickly it doesn’t pay to have too much invested in a baby wardrobe. I get things on sale and at consignment shops so it ends up being a mix.

I don't see the point in buying all of those expensive things when children grow so quickly. I usually go to old navy or target. save some money and my kids look just as cute as any child in the pricey stuff!

Romaniagirl I am like you. I am very picky and I don't like clothing gifts from people. Everyone that knows me hasn't bought my daughter clothes in ages. Her uncle will buy her something once in awhile, but he always jokes that there is a gift receipt in the box. I tend to buy her mostly name brand clothes and I find alot on sale as well as buy some of them full price. I like to look a certain way and I think my daughter should too. However, I tend to not buy items with the name printed on it in an obvious way. I know what they are...everyone else doesn't need to know. I had a teacher tell me once that whoever gets my daughter's hand me down clothes is a really lucky child. I also have a friend who said that her daughter doesn't wear hand me down clothes but she would always take my daughter's clothes(she even put in bids for certain items).

I agree with wingedk. I think Baby Uggs are adorable, and I want some for my daughter. I've seen some imitation ones, but I kind of want the real thing. But some things are frivolous and I have my limits. I do care about the cuteness of things and am very picky. :D I actually prefer that people don't give my kids clothes as gifts, because those things don't get used very often if ever.

That's amazing LilRuck. I admire anyone who can sew. Not only do I buy things on sale...I buy things on sale at Target. I guess I'm cheap, but I normally don't spend even $20 on a pair of jeans that my daughter will grow out of so quickly. Besides. I agree with winged...we shouldn't be teaching our kids that labels matter...

I make my kids' clothes. Fits perfect, endless options, can be recreated if they fall in love with it, etc. Oh and the whole sweatshop labor thing. If I need to buy something I stick with American Apparel.

I buy some brand name stuff for the kiddos, but I mostly get it from TJ Maxx or on super sale at Macy's, Gymboree, etc...so I'm not paying any more than I would for Old Navy or whatever.

The child doesn't know the difference!! I can understand buying a cute top or onesie that is brand name... but to buy simple items like plain white onesies (that are like, $5 from Gerber) or socks from a designer- that's just ridiculous!

I picked other. Only because I think that it *does* make a difference, in that you shouldn't be teaching kids from such an early age that labels make a difference. While it's cute to get the label stuff once in awhile (or give it as a gift)... dressing your kids in it regularly just seems extreme to me.

Oh gosh no! I don't wear name brand myself so I would never put my kid in it. I don't believe in buying a brand just b/c it is 'in fashion' right now. Who cares if the name is Juicy, Chanel, or whatever as long as they fit you and look good on you? I just don't get it.

With how fast kids grow out of clothes there's no way I'd spend that kind of money. I even felt kinda bad when my grandmother on a fixed income bought my son Janie and Jack when he was born. I can't even imagine what she spent. Some of it he didn't even get to wear he got too big too fast.

i dress my daughter in Juicy, True Religion, Joe's etc...but i NEVER pay full price. i got to the Outlets and buy her clothes and even buy somethings on eBay. i think i paid $20 (compared to the $106 price tag at Nordstom) for her True Religion jeans becuase they were marked "seconds" but there was absolutely nothing wrong with them. Nordstrom Rack is also a good place to buy designer kids items for a lot less.
