Lil Tip: Sing While You Wash

The "Happy Birthday" tune isn't good for just one day out of the year. When teaching your tot how to wash her hands, have her sing songs as she lathers her little limbs. The director of hospital infectious programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Dr. Julie Gerberding says it takes about 10 to 15 seconds to thoroughly clean hands.

Perfect tunes for the task are "Row Your Boat," "Happy Birthday," "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and the ABCs. Or, get creative and make one up with your wee one's help.

I do my ABC's. I recently made fun of a friend of mine...after his one minute trip to the bathroom to wash his hands (including the time it took to walk there). He looked at me like I was crazy when I told him to do his ABC's, but he's started to do it now so I feel better :)
