Sleepy Hat: Kid Friendly or Are You Kidding?

Most lil ones take time out of their days to nap, but there's a product that may help you send them off to slumber quicker than a lullaby. The Downtime Sleepy Hat ($22) is an organic cap that parents can tuck over the baby's head and eyes. The flip down mask blocks out light and visual stimulants. The eyelid detailing signals others not to disturb the sleeping babe.

To me it's just amazing all the baby/pregnancy products coming out. This isn't really necessary and I think the price is too much. But kudos to the innovator behind it!

Also, I see it being used less as a "signal" that they're sleeping and more of a reason for everyone passing to go "Hey! Look at that hat!" and wake the child.

yeah my lil guy puts a blanket over his face... but i cant imagine him allowing me to pull a hat over his head AND his eyes... not to mention how warm would it get under there... i'd be worried he'd get overheated. altho i think the eyelash graphics is very cute!

I would be embarassed to put that on my child. It's seems cruel. But that's probably because my daughter would think I lost my mind. But like some others said their children keep blankets over their face to sleep. So it might be good for the kids that do that, and if the mask was used in place of a blanket it has less fabric when it's really hot out and it may help from the child overheating.

no! what happens if you lose it? and the child is used to it? the baby/child won't sleep? it becomes a habit i think. then they begin to not sleep without it. no thanks, the blanky and binky is hard enough to deal with, let alone a "sleep hat". it seems a bit silly to me. clearly they can see the childs eyes are closed if they are sleeping!

I actually like it. My daughetr pulls a blanket over her face to sleep now that she is a toddler and that kind of freaks me out a little bit. This hat would be perfect for long car rides. It doesn't hurt that she loves hats and has to have one on at all times when outdoors. It is her thing. Plus this is such a cute design.

No, I'd be too worried with them pulling this down over their nose and mouth. I would freak out if I woke up and couldn't 'see', can you imagine the trauma for a child?

A plane is the only place I can see using it. Otherwise, doesn't it just end up requiring a stimulant-free environment for sleep? My children get used to sleeping in noise, visual stimulants, etc from birth. Plus I'd think the chances of them pulling it down over their nose and mouth would be kind of high. And in the picture, the chest clip on the carseat is way loo low.

I know from doing Savasana, the relaxation pose in yoga, that placing a light amount of weight on the eyelids enhances relaxation. I might try this on an infant but think I would have less success getting a toddler to keep it on. What I do like is that it signals "sleeping baby" to others.

lol, that's cute! yeah, depends on the child and if they like sleeping with something over their face. my #3 was a hat girl and she still likes to sleep with her face totally covered by blankets. looks as if this would make the child really hot, but it's kind of a "shhhhh" sign which i like.

My kids always wanted to see what was going on, even if they were really tired. And you can't make a child wear a mask over half their face if they don't want to.

It seems kind of odd. However, my sister in law just had a baby and in her hospital pictures she had on a mask like this with the eyes. It looked so strange....but then again she is strange.

Vicki's right, most little ones I know would pull the cap off. All the babies in our family have been able to sleep through anything if they actually were tired - noise is more likely to wake them than light.

I don't think I've met one kid who would keep a hat over their eyes.
