Should You Get Married Just Because You're Pregnant?

Looks like sixteen will be more than just sweet for Jamie Lynn Spears.

The expectant actress is getting hitched to her soon-to-be baby daddy, Casey Aldridge, 18.

According to People:

"She's got an engagement ring," the source says. "She's been showing it off, talking about it."

Since the two are teens, it's pretty safe to assume that they got engaged because of the impending babe.

Do you think it makes sense for them to get married?

Beyonce's younger sister got married at 17, because she was pregnant. You never see hide nor hair of her husband anymore. If they are even still married. And where did this Casey kid get money for a ring? Does he have a job? Or is he doing a Kevin?

Not a good idea. Marrying young is hard enough because neither party is mature enough usually. I know that it sometimes works, but the statistics on it are not good. And in my opinion and experience I think it would be harder to have my parents divorce than to never marry but be happy partners in raising me. Why follow up one bad decision with another? Just my opinion.

I think it just causes stress and resentment to feel forced into getting married, I waited for years then married. And it was because I could not image my life without him. And he asked many times while I was pregnant.

i think u shud get married only if u r in love with each other.. and what were they thinking?? having unprotected sex? reminds me of the movie juno.. anyways i really think she shud ve been more careful.. cant believe some1 wud do something so stupid... anyways if its alright with both n if its gud for the baby.. i guess its ok to get married. tho the best thing wud be avoiding such situations.

I think people should get married because they love eachother, not because they are expecting a baby...

Noooooooo!!!!!!!! You marry for LOVE, not for baby, as some people have already said.AND - 16 is WAY too young to get married!!! OMG! If I ever had a daughter and she told me she was pregnant and getting married at 16 or 17, I'd do everything I could to convince her NOT to get married. Stay together with the baby's father and raise your baby together and see if you will be able to make THAT work before actually getting married. Then, a few years later if everything is still 'hunky dory' (lol) then I say go get hitched.Just my opinion though.

I had to vote "other" in this case because it really all depends on the circumstances. In Jamie Lynn's case I would say "no," mainly because of her age and not the pregnancy. As someone else mentioned, love at 16 is a very different thing, I mean, I swore I was going to marry the boy I was dating at 16 too.. except for the part where I didn't.But there are also many couples a bit older who have been in a long, loving relationship and planned to get married anyway who get married a bit earlier than expected because of a baby. I see no real problem with that.

Well, of course they think they love each other. THey very well might. They are in a relationship and she's pregnant. I think the more important fact is that she is 16. I think almost all of us on here can say that love at 16 is way different than love at 25. Though some young marriages work out, I really think they don't work out as often now, with how flippantly some people view divorce. Had they not gotten pregnant, I doubt that marriage was on the top of their mind. They don't even have real jobs (well, more him in this case and her show is ending) and stability. Plus, in this case, you throw the media in and it just seems unlikely that it will work. More power to them if they can make it work, but I think that a decision as huge as marriage should be made after the craziness of teen pregnancy calms down.

No. If you don't love each other then marriage will never last. You will never even bother to work the small problems out because you DON'T care. And if Jamie Lynne Spears gets married it won't last a year. Momma and Papa Spears has really messed things up with their family.

An unhappy marriage is a far more toxic environment than a single parenting or co-parenting arrangement could ever be. I'd never marry a guy *just* because I got pregnant, but if we had a good thing going, then I might consider it.

If you have a good relationship and had thought about getting married or were planning to do it in the future, I don't see why not. But relationships are really hard at times and to add trying to raise a child on top of a teenage relationship may be too much to deal with. And if you have a child with someone that you don't have the best relationship with, I think energy would be better spent on trying to develop a good parenting relationship with that person because that is what the child will see and learn from.

How do we know they're not in love? Maybe the two are making a commitment to stay together and raise a happy child. What do we know about what's really going on in their relationship?

I think it's most important for a child to see his/her parents be a good example. Marriage is based in love, and you go to the alter as a choice not because you feel obligated. If you're not in love, you shouldn't get married. Chances are if you don't love the person you marry you'll get divorced or be together in a loveless marriage, and that is not a good example for your child.That said, I do know people who were in love, got pregnant, then got married and are still together. Their marriage is solid because they were in love and they worked HARD to keep a strong bond.

So let's look at it this way - if you are in love - go for it. But if you are just feeling guilted by parents or family members - why would you want to add 'divorce' on top of the child support/custody problems that will come down the line if you two don't get along??

I find myself vaguely resentful of any assumption that a woman needs a husband in order to raise a happy, confident, well-adjusted child. A two-parent household is ideal, sure, but ONLY if the parents have a good marriage IMO.Given the age and circumstances of the Spears-Aldridge engagement, I tend to think it's not a good idea for these kids to get married. They've already got such a tremendous burden to carry - why add marriage to an already complicated situation?JMHO, of course. ;-)

You shouldn't get married just for a child, but you never know this could be one of the few that work out. I can't say bad things about people are so young.
