What happened to the good old days of court jesters, witches, Raggedy Anne and teddy bears? Our society has certainly become less prudish, as evidenced by foul language on TV, pants with MILF written on the rears and sex education in kindergarten.

This Halloween, we are sure to see some young girls trick-or-treating in scantily clad costumes that will have their male counterpart's tongues wagging and parents gasping. What do you think of these costume choices? Appropriate or absurd?

Woodhouse Clothing
These aren't that bad. Now I have seen SOME that are HORRIFIC and I would not allow my child to wear in a million years!
But the three costumes here really aren't so bad in my opinion.
1Jasmine costume is cute =D
2Nothing wrong with Jasmine's but I would have them wear a shirt underneath!
3Girls seem like they're getting sexualized younger and younger.
4i dont think there is anything wrong with the Jasmine one..i had a similar costume when i was little back when the original movie came out
5Nope, sorry. There's no way my daughter would sport these (Jasmine *might* be an exception).
Jude C - you're right on. Scares the crap out of me! And my daughter is only 16 months old.
6Every parent or care giver needs to read "Stop dressing your six year old like skank"
This trend is gross and disturbing
Jasmine isnt so bad, but the other two and just scary
7I agree with most...The jasmine one isnt bad at all..but the other two are so wrong!
I cant wait for my daughter to ask me for one of those...if she asks me more than once I'll make her go like grandma!
8I guess it's never too early for them to learn that Halloween is the one night of the year where they can dress like baby hookers without being judged
9It really depends on the parents! I saw some mother last year wearing a dorothy outfit..that looked like it came from victorias secret with her breast and ass out...with her daughter dressed as one of the bratz doll! it was kinda gross...
10The Jasmine isn't THAT bad, but yeah, my daughter wouldn't be wearing anything like the other ones...
11In fact, she's going as Shockwave the Transformer.
I think these are awful. What IS that costume on the far right?
12Jasmine isn't bad at all. But I just came from my sons' Halloween parade at school and was shocked to see a 5th grader in an adult Dorothy costume that had to have been from Frederick's. Tiny skirt, corset top. Another was a 6th grader in a witch's costume with a micromini skirt and visible garters.
Heck, I even have a onesie on under my daughter's Dorothy costume so her diaper doesn't show.
13Maybe it's because I only have boys.
LOL The key here though, is these are YOUR
daughters, and if YOU don't like them, then you're right not to buy them.
14Heck, I even have a onesie on under my daughter's Dorothy costume so her diaper doesn't show.
15I don't think the Jasmine one is that bad but the other ones I don't agree with.
16They would be perfect if the idea was for my daughter to look like a hooker
17My daughter was Jasmine last year, then four and I did not think it was too bad. I want her to be a little girl girl as long as I can, so no BRATZ dolls for her. I do not allow anyone to buy her Bratz toys because I do not like what they promote.
18i put other because i agreed that Jasmine is not so bad, but overall the idea of sleezy kids is just wrong.
the real issue is that the kids WANT to dress like this. they do not have proper role models if they want to dress like this and understand that they are trying to be "sexy."
19The Jasmine one is cute (but might require a t or tank underneath). But the other too, especially that Pussycat Doll one, is just too much. The other day I was in CVS and there as a CHILD's "dark fairy" costume. All kinds of inappropriate.
I agree with the early sexualization of children. But this is was what midriff tops,, low-rise jeans, the disgust of VPL and the apparent need for thongs has laid upon young girls.
20wait, I agree with the sentiment about the UNFORTUNATE early sexualization of children (especially girls).
21no, no. I'm sure there's much worse out there (even in everyday clothing) but not the sexy stylings or the bare midriffs or the words on the butt.
22I love the undergarment onesie!
I don't find them bad, although I think they are ugly(except for Jasmine). My daughter wore Jasmine costumes twice, but they were better looking than the one above.
23i'm so glad i've gotta boy! hahah
24Not a fan of exposing little girls' bellies at such a young age. It unfortunately DOES sexualize them. They don't realize it, and maybe you don't...but the sexual predators walking around certainly will seems to think so.
People can do what they want... but there's a reason why girls are having sex at such a young age. I certainly wasn't wearing outfits like this when I was that young. Were you?
25Quivondra, my mom would have sent me to a convent until I turned 25 if I'd ever even suggested such a thing
26One thing that's changed is that kids are making their own costumes anymore. While I understand it's convenient to go and buy a cute costume, making my costume was such a big part of the fun. I still remember when I dressed up as Raggedy-Ann, and we "made" my tights and even my dress...those were good times!!!
27*kids AREN'T making their costumes.
Typoday!!
28I used to raid my mom's closet and turn myself into a gypsy with her wide variety of flowy skirts and colorful scarves.
29Jazmine is fine, the cowgirl one is alright i guess but the naughty kitten lingerie is not cool.
30I think the Jasmine costume is ok, but I might opt to sew some sheer or shiny fabric over the exposed tummy part.
As far as the other two costumes, I don't think they are appropriate.
31Yeah, the other two just scream BABY STRIPPER.
32

33Hollywood starlet? or Paris Hiltons next BFF?
Goth Bloodstone costume....its a bit much.
and dont forget the TWEEN costumes. does that been in be-tween being a full blown Ho and a Sl*t?
LOL! I Wasnt allowed to wear anything that exposed my midsection until I graduated highschool and bought my own clothes. Too funny.
34THe costumes are out of control for the children and Tween and Teen set. I always go and pick out a costume with my niece , who is 11 now, and the ones i had to say NO WAY to were many. They will want to wear them no doubt about it, but you cannot let them just because its "cool" to look that way (according to the media and companies)
Has anyone here read a seventeen magazine lately, I know that it isnt a childs mag, but its geared towards the 15-19 age group....Full of sex...its "how to get your guy into bed" quizzes....
35And the way they have posed the child models in the 1st and 3rd photos is even more suggestive
36JASMINE is super cute and kid appropriate in my opinion. The other two are ridiculous.
37Jasmine isn't bad... but holy hell, sexy kitty? Trashy cowgirl? Really?
38If I had a kid I would let her wear the Jasmine one with a tank underneath. The other two are way too skanky.
39These ones are't so bad but I definitely agree that a lot of them are unnecessarily sexy. Little girl shouldn't be sexy!!
40The Jasmine I would let slide. But with the cowgirl and kitty, are you freakin kidding me???? Who lets their girls wear these??
41I never wore those types of costumes myself, but to me Halloween was about being creepy and scary. Not cute. LOL
And I totally agree with Roxtar. I'm SO GLAD I have boys. One is a vampire the other is the "ghost" thing from the Scream movies. Although now that I think about it, the scream one came with a knife that I DID take away. (I made him a very realistic looking one out of cardboard, but it's very obviously cardboard).
I mean, he's 17 and responsible, but who's to say they guy that SEES the real looking knife won't think it IS real and attack him?
42Yuck!
SOMEONE must buy these for their daughters, or they wouldn't sell them every year.
43Luckily, where I live my kid has to wear long johns under her costume anyways- it is 40 degrees!
44Oh I saw worse last weekend at a city sponsored Halloween festival. I saw a 10 year old dressed as a french maid!!!
My girls got the tutu costumes that are popular on Ebay, the baby's was a dress, my oldest's had the corset top, that was IN NO WAY sexy. It was fully covered, just shaped like a corset (a tube that met in the back and she STILL wore a long sleeved white bodysuit underneath.
People have got to stop dessing their daughters like hookers, then their daughters won't think it's okay to dress like hookers.
45I don't think that these costumes are wrong or skanky.
46The Jasmine costume is fine. The rocker chick isn't too bad even though there's no reason for the tummy to show. The worst is that cat one. I saw a girl in it last night, she was probably around 8 and SOMEHOW it asctually made it look like she had cleavage! The top was so low it was almost showing off her goods. It was also way to cold for her to be wearing that with out tight and a shirt underneath. Oh, well.
47These costumes are wrong. And I hate Bratz dolls. They sure look like hookers.
48I just think it's sad that a lot of parents don't seem to realzie that they're CHIDLREN. They are not adults, they cannot understand the symbolization of these outfits. They just see Slutty Mily, and all the other ho bag tweens skanking it up and they think that's normal and what they should be striving to be.
Why aren't parents having an open conversation with their children to help them form their OWN identify, and their OWN sense of self not what they see on TV.
49I had a jasmine costume when I was in 3rd grade and my mom made me wear a white turtle neck shirt underneath. I wouldn't let my future children wear costumes like the pink sexy kitty one and I know my bf wouldn't either...he was shocked when he saw these pictures! lol
