Oops! Was Your Gender Surprise Spoiled?

Everyone eventually finds out the sex of their baby, but some parents-to-be choose to know on a certain day (the 20-week ultrasounds or at the birth) or in a particular way (opening a sealed envelope of the info or cutting into the cake at a gender reveal party). But hospital workers are human, and even the most seasoned doctors and nurses slip up. Did you find out the sex of your baby on accident?

With my frist child I knew he was a boy, from the moment I found out I was pregnant, but had the ultrasound to confirm. My second child I had no idea but had an ultrasound to see how far along I was. And told my hubby I didn't want to know I really wanted the surprise, I guess he forgot so when the tech ask he said yes and before I could say no he told us it's a boy. I was so upset, but we get to plan and name him before he arrived so it worked out in the end

Our son ruined his own surprise by doing a whole lot of flashing of that region during his ultrasound! We didn't officially find out (the sonographer said nothing and kept a total poker face) but we were pretty sure we were expecting a boy afterwards!

2 years 40 weeks

First one was a surprise. 2nd one I found out by choice, but decided I shouldn't have - I like the surprise at the end of the 9months. So, when I got pregnant with my 3rd, that was something I was looking forward to again. I didn't occur to me to say something to the ultrasound tech at my 11-wk ultrasound becuase I thought that was too early. But she volunteered that it looked like it was going to be a girl. THEN she asked if I was going to find out the gender ! to which I responded "no". She quickly tried to back-pedal, but the damage was done. I cried for 2 weeks straight, and I am still mad about the whole situation (and my daughter is 4 months old now).

So I guess I'm a bit of an exception. My parents were told i was a boy, but ended up with a girl. So of course I had a blue baby's room.

My comment made no sense. That is what I get for typing one handed while trying to feed a baby. LOL! Anyhow, I meant to say I paid out of pocket for a 3D u/s to confirm she was a girl. I was so paranoid she would be a boy and I was decorating pink. I had heard several stories of women having boys after they had been told a girl on u/s since there is more room for error with "girl parts." Needless to say, she is all girl! ;)

I didn't find out with my first - my husband and I wanted it to be a surprise - but we both "knew" I was having a girl. With my 2nd, I found out at the 20 week anatomy scan that I was having a boy (again - not really a shock - we both had a feeling it was a boy). Now with #3, I found out at 16 weeks (at my amnio) that it is a girl - I had a feeling since I found out that it was a girl, but my husband thought we were having a boy. Woohoo!!

We didn't want to find out with #2 until the birth date but had to undergo an amnio (while I guess not had to, but choose to..) anyways, when the genetic counselor called to tell us the results she let it slip "Your little girl is going to be just fine." Doh!

Starbucks, after I was told I was expecting a girl, I couldn't believe it and was doubting it since I had heard that same thing. So I worried the entire time I painted the nursery pink that she was really a boy. I even paid out of pocket for peace of mind. LOL! I agree with lickety. I never understood waiting, either. It's a surprise either way and knowing ahead of time allows for better planning and all of that.

I never could have waited. I was anxious to by gender specific stuff. A friend gave a a wrapped present for my baby's birthday next week and didn't tell me what's in it. I didn't make it 5 hours before opening it. Patience is not a virtue of mine! I'd be more interested in knowing how many people were suprised my their baby's gender because they were expecting the opposite. When we found out we were having a girl, so many people told us that it happend to soandso...

waited till her birth for #1 and LOVED the surprise!! found out for #2 and loved it that way too! having had it both ways..... i definitely think it's more of a surprise waiting until the end. the anticipation builds suspense and at that final moment, after all the work, hearing that announcement is priceless!

We wanted to know all we could about each pregnancy. We found out the sex in each pregnancy as soon as we could. I never understood how it's less of a surprise when you find out in the doctors office as opposed to the delivery
