Seven-Year-Old Breaks into Zoo, Kills Reptiles and Feeds Croc

Not all seven-year-olds spend their time hanging out in the school yard. A while back, lil Latarian Milton stole his grandmother's SUV and it took it for a joyride plowing through things in his path, but now an Australian boy of the same age has done something even more frightening. The child broke into the Outback zoo and killed 13 reptiles in a rampage some of which he fed to a crocodile. Since he is under the age of 10, Australian law prevents him from being charged with a crime.

what kinda of steroids is that kid on?! i don't believe in hitting kids but i know i would have broken my feet off in his @$$ something awful! how does a 7 yr old do something like that? where was his parents? he's a sociopath and he needs professional help not criminal charges but man he's satan.

Of course it can be both, that's why I said more like and not that it's totally nurture rather than nature. Having both siblings with the tendencies is indicative of a family problem. We don't know the boy either, yet no one's had a problem stating that he's going to become a serial killer. We know what is stated in this and other stories. The parents need to be investigated.

His brother has the same problem - how is that being too harsh on the parents? It sounds much more like a nurture issue rather than nature.

This is how serial killers start. They kill animals when they are young, and people when they are older. Hopefully he will get treatment for whatever his condition is. I think people who have commented here are being a bit harsh on the parents. If he has real psychological issues, that is beyond the parents control.

I will preface this comment with the fact that I do want children, a LOT. Its things like this that makes me hate children and young people in general (and I'm only 23). This is not some innocent act, that child should be sent to therapy and watched closely because he's probably a sociopath destined to continued to commit horrible acts. Those poor little lizards... thats so disgusting.

Oh I agree that it will cause sociopathic problems if not taken care of, and that it may even already have created lifelong problems. I just mean it doesn't sound like the whole "serial killer starts with torturing animals without a home influence" scenario. There's obviously some home influence causing this type of problem.

It sounds like a home problem rather than a sociopathic problem. If you read other accounts, they mention his brother had problems with a zoo about five years ago as well. It sounds like his parents need one heck of an intervention and inspection.

Anyone here familiar with how child protection services are handled in Aus.? I hope this kid's parents are held accountable, investigated, or at least something! I can't watch the video, it looks way too disturbing for my animal loving soul. We all know what happened last time foxie roped me into animal videos ;)

This kid needs therapy. This won't be the last violent crime he commits... that's just a sad truth.

I'd be mortified if I were the parents. I think they should be held accountable for the damage though. They are responsible for keeping him in check and obviously that isn't something the excel at.

I have run a gammut of opinion since I first heard this story. His parents need to be examined for their role in their child's behavior. What would lead a child to have this level of blatant disregard for life?? Beyond actions for the best well-being for the child, the parents also need to be financially and/or criminally responsible for what happened.

where the headline says "and feeds croc" i thought the story would end with the kid falling in to the croc pen. i feel sad for him because he needs help, but this is also very dangerous. he could have been killed! scary.

besides the fine, that family, especially that child should be required to complete therapy... and really, it is SO disturbing, because as ekatrina mentioned this sociopathic behavior can lead to even more horrific things...

I can't see the video, but it sounds awful. Not really a comparison to taking a car for a joyride, in my opinion. This kid needs therapy and needs it now.

This is a truly sad case--and not for the animals. Children that exhibit this kind of behavior (mercilessly killing innocent animals for pleasure) are often sociopaths in the making. The security at the zoo said they were horrified watching the kid do this because he seemed to enjoy it so much. It's just so sad because there is really nothing that can be done for kids like this. And I heard his parents are being sued to cover the cost of replacing those reptiles. Apparently he rung up a charge of $5500 (not sure if this US $ or AU $)
