Was Your Second Pregnancy Harder Than Your First?

I always assumed a second pregnancy would be easier than the first as nerves seem to get the best of novice mamas-to-be.

To my surprise, expectant friends are having a tougher time on their second go round.

One woman has a severe case of placenta previa, which is preventing her from traveling, exercising or having sex. On top of that, the umbilical cord is straight down the middle in a precarious position.

Concerned with the baby in her belly AND entertaining her 18–month–old son, this second pregnancy has been more worrisome than the first.

I breezed right through my first. My second was harder. I had a LOT of pressure since my first daughter was over 9lbs and I carried her a week past her due date. The doctor says that kind of weight causes a lot of trauma. With my second I had the most horrible back pain at night. I would cry when night time was coming cause I knew it was going to kill trying to sleep. And my second was over 9lbs also and past her due date (but only by 3 days). SO I had my tubes tied!

Vote is still out as I have two months left before delivery. This is the first time I have had any complications though. Spotting in the first trimester, and a marginal praevia that still hasn't taken care of itself.

I am 22 weeks into my second pregnancy and though it didn't seem easy at the time, my first pregnancy was much easier than this one. I have placenta previa this time around and morning sickness and much more round ligament pain then I had with my first one. On the plus side, I feel like this pregnancy is going much faster as I am occupied with my 3 three year old and not just sitting around worrying about the baby.

I don't have a first or a second yet, but my mother has warned me up and down how much harder a second one is. Her reasoning is that along with those nerves for the first one is a lot of excitement about whats to come. Which makes all the bad stuff seem easier. When its your second she says you're still excited but its no longer new to you and you're chasing after another little one not rest nearly as much...much harder

I'm 10 weeks into my second. I had hyperemesis with the first, and the morning sickness started very badly this time, so I've been allowed to take some anti-vomiting tablets, but the nausea is still there. Because I had a miscarriage in between I am constantly terrified of losing this one. And I have a bouncy crazy gorgeous toddler to look after this time. So, to be honest, I'm tired and kind of depressed and it hasn't even started to get really difficult yet. I know that I will think it's worth it, and forget this time, but I'm not looking forward to the next 7 months.

in my second i was very tired (my first two are just 12 months apart) so that was hard. but my third was very difficult. worst was that i started going into labor at about 35 weeks and it would start and stop, start and stop, etc. labor was harder too. it was as if my body forgot what to do or something. i was never one of those glowing pregnant woman, lol.

I was lucky and enjoyed two easy pregnancies. The first one was all about the excitement of the unknown and the second flew by as I was so busy with my daughter. But, I will say that being overdue and feeling like the baby is about to slip out at any second is harder when you are also carrying a two year old in your arms!

In some ways yes, in some ways no. I had gestational diabetes with my first, which made that one tough in some ways. I didn't have it with my second, but I had preterm labor problems early on and ended up on Terbutaline around the clock. And I had gallstones that my OB misdiagnosed as just being too much pressure on my back from the pregnancy. But overall, both were relatively smooth once I got over morning sickness. My third pregnancy, however, was incredibly difficult, both emotionally and physically. I swore I'd never do it again until she was born and I held her, then it was totally forgotten and I started talking about having a fourth.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and with my first pregnancy it went away and I had no pain but with my second pregnancy it came on worse than ever and I couldn't take my medication to control it so I was in incredible pain for most of my pregnancy. I was also a lot more tired, a lot from the arthritis and a lot because I had two little boys at home already.

I'm 7 weeks into my second one so I really can't say. If anything could be better with this one than the first, I'm hoping it's the morning sickness. :fingerscrossed:

with each one, my blood pressure got worse and worse, finally with my last one, she was a emergency induction.

Each of my pregnancies were worse than the last, and the deliveries were worse too. I think for me, it just took too much of a toll on my body. It got harder and harder for me to carry and deliver a baby. Each delivery had complications worse than the last. Some women are really built for having babies, I just don't think I was one of them.

both my pregnancies were relatively great. My second one...I was more tired but I also had a toddler to chase after at that time. I had relatively easy pregnancies. No morning sickness at all. Towards the end of both I had some pretty intense back pain, but nothing out of the ordinary.
