According to Consumer Reports, "The percentage of births resulting from artificially induced labor more than doubled from 1990 to 2008." Researchers believe the sharp increase is due to doctors and families hoping to make labor more convenient. The problem, according to the magazine, is that induced labor tends to happen before the baby is ready for birth, leading to prolonged labors and an increased rate of C-section.
