Lil Tip: Don't Let Baby Burn

When heading outside for a day in the sunshine, it's important to shield babies and infants from harmful UV rays. But, don't reach for that tub of thick sunscreen yet. Many pediatricians recommend children under six-months-old not wear sunscreen. With skin so delicate and pores not fully developed, the chemicals in most protectors can be too strong for sensitive newborns.

Instead of lathering the infant up with cream, provide shade with hats and lightweight clothing options that will prevent the tot from overheating and burning. Also be aware of the time in the heat, as dehydration can become a factor for wee ones.

it's not just about letting a baby burn, but ALWAYS putting SPF on it. Always. I bet a lot of moms don't do that... And I see a bunch of newborns on the the beach. terrible. that should be considered child endangerment.
