Prop Baby Cocoons: Kid Friendly or Are You Kidding?

When I first saw these baby cocoons from simplybasicdesigns's Etsy shop ($45) I thought: oh my goodness! That baby is too cute! I later worried about how safe an infant might be wrapped up in such a thick body blankie, but learned the designs are mostly used by photographers as a prop during baby's first few weeks of life.

Would you wrap your baby in a cocoon for the sake of a cuddly pic, or are you squeamish about these soft knitted pouches?

I know a lot of hospatal that request these for there infants wards http://www.reliefshare.org/wordpress/index.php/2011/01/11/72-baby-cocoons-delivered-to-the-hospital-today/ . They say the baby feels more secure and they do not smother like with blankets.

All for it, a few minutes in a cacoon, for lifelong beautiful photos, why not, or who wouldn't? Love them

As a photographer who uses these cacoons, they are only meant for photography purposes and most come with a warning to parents regarding this safety issue. That being said, they make great props as newborns tend to get chilly doing naked shots and these cacoons keep them snuggly, sleeping and co-operative for pictures.

i would have loved pictures of my boys in these when they were newborns...it is adorable

How would it be any hotter than swaddling them in a thick blanket on a cold day? I have no problem with these. I wouldn't buy one but I don't think there's anything wrong with them.
