Would You Buy the Pregnant Man's Book?

Since announcing his pregnancy, I've been fascinated by transgender man, Thomas Beatie. Until he appeared on Oprah to tell his unique story, many were convinced the tale was a hoax. But, more than the biology of the situation, I've been captivated by the intense reactions people have had to his decision to have a child.

Whether it will be a best–seller remains to be seen, but Thomas Beatie is penning his memoirs in a book titled Love Makes a Family: A Memoir of Hardship, Healing and an Extraordinary Pregnancy.

I think it's an interesting situation that simply proves that there are more than two genders out there. At first I didn't understand why a woman who felt better in a man's body, was assumedly legally male and considered male by people on the street would decide to become pregnant. How many men want to be pregnant? But since then I've decided that it's just a case of a third gender appearing. As far as I'm concerned, people are allowed to do whatever they please with their bodies, but I don't agree with his cashing in on it through the media.

What F-ing hardship? it doesnt surprise me that this woman is putting out a book to document her "unique" experiance, whatever. I might go home and put a dog costume on my cat and tell everyone that my dog meows....can i get some cash for that?

I just don't like the fact that he is writing this book before the child was even born. It's almost like, quick, while the issue is hot, let me put a book on the market so I can milk this for all I can! There's no retrospect there. That book can't be very good, I'm not wasting my time on it.

I agree with all the others regarding the ridiculous hype. Whoopdie freakin' do, a chick who dresses like a dude got pregnant. I do, however, feel sorry for the poor child she is bringing into the world.

He's legally a man. Biologically, he's still a woman, making "his" pregnancy nothing out of the realm of reality.

I agree with jennifer76's second comment- that's some exemplary devotion. I'm just surprised that, as a whole, Sugar readers aren't as... enlightened as I'd thought (hoped?). Thomas is most certainly a "he".

im so sick of hearing about this. No i wouldnt buy anything about him. HE was really born a SHE duh "he" can have a baby!! he is a she. this is dumb and crazy who ever likes reading about these two are nuts.

Good for him that he has this opportunity to have a child but I'm not really interested about his views on pregnancy.

I wish they would GO away!!! You know there are LOTS of people that go through things to have children with the person they love. We have a friend that risked her life to carry a pregnancy to term when diagnosed with cancer. All of the attention makes me ill.

I probably would not buy the book. I have lost some respect for this person for sensationalizing the story of pregnancy and parenting. And now the fact he is writing a book (which I am assuming will be for profit) - has me even more upset. And has me questioning the intentions here.

like everyone else said...it's really a woman!!!there's nothing special here...it's not like Arnold in "Junior" or anything so what's the big deal ?it's just cause she looks like a dude? lots of chicks look like dudes but no one gives them a book deal when they get pregnant!! lol...j/k

There's really nothing extraordinary about this. I'm sure it's happened before and will happen again, but those other transgendered persons who have a child won't be publicity hounds.

I couldn't disagree more. This is someone who committed to living their life as a man, but wanted a child with their partner so badly that they were willing to step back and undergo a pregnancy using their female "plumbing". There's obviously no scientific "magic" here, but I think it's a heck of a love story.

It kind of offends me that it's so hyped as an "extraordinary" pregnancy. Cheapens it for the rest of us, in my opinion.

I really don't see what all the hype is about? I mean, he has all the correct plumbing to have a baby so why are they making such a big deal out of it? I wouldn't buy the book only because I know it'll be about his choice to switch to becoming a man, getting pregnant and how the media is treating the issue...I can't see it being filled with anything surprising??

Big freaking deal. It's a woman dressed up as a man. I lost a lot of respect for Oprah for doing this show, is she turning into Jerry Springer? This is dysfunctional as far as I'm concerned. That poor child is going to be SO confused. There is NOTHING extraordinary about this pregnancy WHAT-SO-EVER.
