Pregnant Man Gives Birth to Baby Girl!

Thomas Beatie, who garnered media attention as the "pregnant man," gave birth to a baby girl today! Beatie and his wife, Nancy, have not disclosed the method of delivery. The child is Thomas's first. Nancy has two daughters from a previous relationship. Congratulations to the family!

I Think it's rather ironic that CatipillarGirl's DP is Columbia, Frankenfurter, and Magenta, who are three characters from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a movie (based on a musical that originated in London, England) that represents the differences we can all celebrate in. So as you (CG) sport the picture of that cast, Transsexuals from a galaxy called Transylvania who sing about creatures of the night, and create a person from science without the use of human reproductive organs, think before you judge something you so proudly display. And for everyone who says HE'S a SHE, legally he's a he. And all that matters is that child is brought into a wonderful, loving home.

"Born Tracy LaGondino, Beatie reports that he fell in love with his wife, Nancy, while living in Hawaii. He underwent sex reassignment partially because same-sex marriages are not legal there. Beatie had testosterone therapy and chest reconstruction surgery, but retained his female genitalia." (He has been legally declared a man.) "After marriage, the couple wanted to start a family, but Nancy was unable to conceive. Consequently, although Beatie is legally recognized as a male, he decided to carry the baby. Beatie stated it took him two attempts at artificial insemination to become pregnant effectively and safely, and that nine doctors were involved in the pregnancy. Beatie reportedly went into labor early in the first week of July 2008, checking into a local Oregon hospital under an assumed name. After the July 3 birth, there were conflicting reports as to whether or not the delivery was done by Cesarean section. It has since been reported that Beatie had a natural birth." Now, this should clear up some of the statements made by others. As for the people that are so mean spirited on here, I'll leave you to think about this: Matthew 7:2-5 declares, "For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

It is amazing how close minded and hateful some of these comments are. Biologically Thomas is a woman but she psycologically identifies as a man. What's the big problem, if Thomas wants to be recognized as a man then so be it. His wife could not give birth so he volunteered to do it. I don't think these two are "attention" seekers in order to get fame and money but I think they are raising awarness for other transgendered couples that are thinking about starting a family.

The fact that Thomas didn't want to have the sex-changing surgery to STAY a woman, proves her/his desire to be a woman. WHAT man would want to go through pregnancy/birth??

AFRY - THANK YOU FOR POSTING THAT!! I took a human sexual behavior course in college and we spoke to multiple people who were transgendered. And it is very common for there to be too much of the opposite sex hormone during a woman's pregnancy. If this happens the physically male baby may feel mentally female. Maybe people should do some research before going crazy over something like this.

A man didn't give birth and they made it my business by publicizing it. I could care less what gender you are, who you screw or anything else anyone does, but a man did not have a baby and the baby is gonna be confused and teased. I'm sure it will be loved; I love my dog more than a lot of people I know.

Everyone here should learn something about transgendered people before they judge. Sometimes a male fetus in the womb gets a little too much estrogen from his mom somehow and he comes out with a vagina or ambiguous genitalia. When you look at slices of their brain under a microscope, the brain looks more like the brain of a male than that of a female. This is why when this person grows up, he still feels like a man, but looks like a woman. In most cases, it isn't just that the person has a psychological disorder, it is a physical problem.

The media hounds celebrities and their children, so I don't think this is very different in those regards. He's not exactly being chased down the street like Britney Spears and her children. As for knowing that your "father" gave birth to you - such a situation is only taboo if society deems it so. I agree it's different, but I don't think it's bad. Would you rather know that your father gave birth to you, or that your dad was some drug-addict in prison for various crimes, or perhaps not knowing who your father was? Shall I go on?I guess we can agree to disagree, but I don't think they'll be bad parents, though I don't think they'll be perfect (indeed no one is). I'm glad that it gets people talking, though. I think it's a good thing trying to see the world through the perspective of someone very different from ourselves. It's helps put life in perspective and (hopefully) makes us all more open-minded.

well im glad everything turned out great for this woman/man whatever. having a baby is a blessing but like many of the people on here i feel really bad for that baby. if she grew up thinking she was a man why be a hypocrite and keep the main thing that defines you as a woman? i mean...the main thing that separates us from men are the system that goes on in our bodies...having babies is something no man can ever imagine. why would this "man" keep her stuff for later use? I'm sorry but i see it as being extremely hypocritical! on top of all of that...its makes me gag to see his picture pregnant without a shirt on. i cant help it. "men" or people who think they are men should not be carrying children.

well im glad everything turned out great for this woman/man whatever. having a baby is a blessing but like many of the people on here i feel really bad for that baby.if she grew up thinking she was a man why be a hypocrite and keep the main thing that defines you as a woman? i mean...the main thing that separates us from men are the system that goes on in our bodies...having babies is something no man can ever imagine. why would this "man" keep her stuff for later use? For those that don't think this is a mental illness, I guess I just don't understand why it wouldn't be. These people suffer until they are given surgery or hormones. They think they are something they are not! We acknowledge body dysmorphia as a mental issue, so how is this different? Now we're letting 8 year olds decide if they are transgendered and forcing schools to accommodate it. So in my opinion we have gone from total intolerance and wrongful hate to total tolerance. I think it would be nice if there was a middle ground between total intolerance (I don't preach hate or violence because that is ridiculous) and an investigation into what is making the mind think they are not the sex they were born.

Great Sommelier: Lots of people go on talk shows (including celebrities) and talk about their personal lives and their children, and it doesn't necessarily mean they are just in it for attention. My guess is that they first decided to have a child, and only then did they decide to go on Oprah to share their story because like katedavis said, the public may have found out anyway (hello HIPAA violation!). So this way they are in control of the way we receive the news, and it helps to put a face on transgendered people - a necessity (I think) in this country, where they are still stigmatized on a regular basis. BTW, what constitutes a "normal life" for a child? Everyone is raised differently, by people with different values/cultures/etc. If you're going to question their motives for going on a talk-show to share their point of view, then you should probably start questioning every celebrity that talks about their pregnancies and children on these same shows.

I don't understand why the media has made such a big deal about this. These people are attention seekers. I'm shocked they didn't have cameras in the delivery room. If they're happy and comfortable with their choices why must they continue to throw it in our faces? Go away live your life raise your kid. PERIOD.
