In November 1999, during her husband Tony Blair's second year as prime minister of the United Kingdom, Cherie Blair announced her surprise at discovering she was pregnant with the couple's fourth child. In 2002, at the age of 47, she suffered a miscarriage during the first trimester of her fifth pregnancy.
