When I take my kids swimming, I'm usually a bit on edge, as my son is attracted to the pool's edge. For parents who want to safeguard their children around water, particularly if they have a pool in their own backyard, this turtle band sensor alerts moms and dads if their lil rascal slips into the pool. Secure Baby's Child Water Safety Alarm ($150) works similar to a baby monitor. A soft turtle wristband is fastened to the tot's arm, and if he ends up getting wet, the base sounds. The set comes with one turtle band, but parents with multiple children can purchase additional ones ($60). While this product acts as an extra method of protection for kids, it should only be used in addition to adult supervision.

It is not possible to watch your kids every second. If you try to it will be a bit obsessive. This will definitely come in handy for some people. I have a pool and a pool fence and doors that chime when you go out. My daughter is VERY stubborn and feels she has the right to do whatever she wants(she doesn't). However, I am lucky in that I got it knocked into her head that she is not allowed in the pool or by the pool unsupervised under any conditions. This is the ONE thing that she has ever followed religiously.

Exactly, if you turn to grab something one child needs, you are bringing your attention off the pool for a moment. Or if one falls in and you turn to grab them, you're taking your attention off the others. Now in those cases you wouldn't need the alarm because you're right there. I'm simply saying I don't agree that there's never a valid reason to take your attention away momentarily.

I probably would have agreed with all of you that it's irresponsible to turn your head by the pool and this is an unnecessary item for responsible parents, but when my brother and I were younger my parents took us to a pool at a hotel we were staying at. My dad was doing laps and my mom was getting my brother and I ready to swim. My brother (who was around 3) said he was going to jump in, and my mother made it very clear that he was not to jump in and she was going to put his life vest on. She was sitting on or standing next to the chair with the vest and turned for a split second just to pick it up and when she turned back he was gone. She looked into the pool and there was my brother standing on the bottom (she reached in and grabbed him out). That being said, if you need an alarm to know your kid is in the pool there probably is something wrong. Or maybe you have a lot of kids and you're at a very busy pool. (This would probably help relax Kate Gosselin if they ever took the kids to a pool.)

Oh my gosh! I have to agree that people need to just watch their kids when at the pool. If you are there in the backyard with them (like you should be!) how could you possibly miss them falling in? Even if you have multiple children...

I'd consider it if need be.I don't agree that there's never an excuse for turning your back for a short moment, though. Especially if you have more than one child, more than one immediate need.

SMART! I have a 7mo old, and she is not going to be allowed near a pool or water without me to watch her. Still, this is a very smart device that is perfect for those lazy-ass parents who don't watch their kids (turning your back for a minute is not watching your kids).
