Poll: Did You Find Out the Sex?

"It's a boy!" and "It's a girl!" proclamations are no longer just made in the delivery room. As a pregnancy enters its 20th week, most moms-to-be are given the opportunity to learn the sex of the baby at their ultrasound. Though there don’t appear to be any conclusive studies, doctors estimate that 50 - 70 percent of their patients choose to learn the sex, while the remainder waits to be surprised.

I loved the suspense of being surprised with both my kids, what did you do?

I wish I had the patience to wait to find out. I feel so paralyzed not knowing- like I can't look for names, pick out furniture or shop for anything. Generally I like surprises so it's weird that I get so panicky ;-)

I found out i was having twins at 7 weeks and i felt it important to find out their sex beforehand. There is just too much involved with having two babies to not get some pre-planning, shopping and decorating done. Glad i did...with two boys it was so much easier. I think if i have another one, i MIGHT wait to find out. Still...since i had two boys and i really want a girl...i might not be able to wait. ;)

we do not find out. it's more fun for me that way. my rule is that i get to say if my baby is a boy or girl. i have homebirths, so that is easier for me. last time, i was so in awe of my new baby i forgot to look and my husband had to say WELL DID WE HAVE A BOY OR A GIRL??? and then i had to find my glasses. :)

I didn't care so much one way or the other, but my husband REALLY wanted to know. Thankfully our little guy was flashing the whole world at our 18 week U/S. :-) Although I had an amnio as well, so we would have found out eventually.

See, that was my thing too, I couldn't wait to shop and decorate. You're way too busy to do that afterward, and I wouldn't trust anybody else to shop for my kid... not even my hubby :rotfl: although he hates shopping so that wouldn't happen anyway.With my first (a boy) we painted his room with blue stripes and got natural wood furniture, where for a girl I would have wanted white. Now with my second I will hopefully find out in a few weeks. :jumpin: If it's a boy, I hardly need to get anything new, but for a girl I will have to go shopping all over again.

I don't have any children, but I will definately find out. I want to be prepared and be able to buy and receive personalized gifts.

Urgh. I should get my ultrasound date on Friday. I can't wait. I found out with both my others and I wanted this one to be a surprise, but now it's killing me and I want to get down to some serious shopping.

cutecurls, one thing I'd advise is to make a clear request to have nothing put in your chart. That was the problem with my first - the doctor marked it on my chart even though there was no need to. With my second, the doctor knew at the ultrasound but never noted it, so no one was able to spill the beans along the way.This time, they weren't able to tell at the ultrasound anyway, so there's no worries.

I wanted to know, but SweetPea made us wait to find out. She refused to cooperate with the ultrasound. If we get pregnant again, I'll try to find out again, too.

If I ever have kids I would love to know. But I actually have never come across someone who didn't wait until delivery to find out. The suspense would kill me!

We always pick a nickname during pregnancy so we have something to call the baby. My first was Marvin (as in the Martian), the second was Shadow, and this one's Linguini. *lol* I tend to use "he" pronouns and really confuse people who'd previously been told we weren't finding out. It's just habit after two boys.

I don't have any children yet but i would definately want to know. It's a surprise either way so i would like to know ahead of time and that way can get ready for the baby.Plus it would be nice to know so when you are talking to the baby you have something to call them.

We decided to find out... I couldn't wait to know and it was so great since we had already chosen our names so when we heard it was a girl we started calling her by her name instead of it or the baby it was Alana :)

My first was a surprise and my other two we knew, if we have another one it will be a surprise. One of the best moments of my life was hearing the doctor say "It's a boy"
