Poetry For Children

"First and foremost, just read to your kids. You hear people say that all the time, but take five or 10 minutes at bedtime and have books of poetry. There's a lot of collections of classic poems and modern poems — even Dr. Seuss sort of qualifies as poetry. Parents don't need to feel like they should stick to the classics — stretch their (the children's) boundaries a little bit. Kids may not understand some advanced poem, but they'll get the feeling of it, the rhythm of it, and how you can paint a picture with words even if you don't get the exact meaning."
