Pet Dogs Maul Two-Month-Old Boy

No matter how docile a pet, parents should always take precautions when bringing home babe. An Oklahoma couple learned the hard way when they left their two-month-old son alone in his swing and it cost him his life. The baby's mother and grandmother were in another room of the house when the infant was mauled by one of the family's two dogs —a black Labrador puppy and a small Pug.

This is an awful story. I love dogs (and all animals), but they are still animals with wild instincts. You can't leave them alone with a child. I have a sheltie who is the most docile dog in the world, but she is never left alone with small children. You never know what could happen.Since this story seemed so strange, I took the time to search the internet for articles about it. I found the two below from a paper in Oklahoma. Apparently the mom was 17, and she was asleep in another part of the house. They think the grandmother was also asleep in another part of the house. The baby was left alone for TWO hours. People are really stupid when it comes to animals. They should never be left alone with babies. Poor kid.

Add Pugs and Labradors to the vicious breeds list. How did the dog get into the swing? How come the child didn't wake up and cry at that disturbance alone? There are too many questions for me to believe it was either a puppy or a pug. Something's not right.

Something doesn't smell right in Denmark. Whatever happened, it's a horrible event and sad for both baby and animal(s).

I don't understand why everyone is crying negligence here. They were at home with two small dogs they trusted. I'm pretty sure most moms at some point leave their child sleeping somewhere such as a swing. crib etc. with dogs in the home. Unless these people live in a mansion and the baby was left in some other wing I'm thinking the baby was very close to where the mother was even if she wasn't in the room at the time of the attack. For example, would you wake your baby and take him out of the swing if you had to go to the bathroom, or throw the wet laundry into the dryer? I feel bad for them, very sad.

If you look through the video they show the lab puppy being taken out of the house and it couldn't be more than 15-20 pounds, I find it so hard to believe that the puppy could pick up a 10 lbs baby and shake it. I mean my dogs are about that size and the only things they playfully shake are their toys that don't weigh very much.

This has been all over the news here in Tulsa. They investigated and are 100% sure the dog caused the death of the child. In OK if an animal attacks a person it has to be put down. No getting around it. I am not defending the parents because they obviously should not have left their child alone; just trying to explain why the dog was put down. It is a very sad situation and the parents appeared devastated in an interview last night.

Definitely something fishy about this story. I feel horrible for the baby and the dog. Why are they only killing one dog because they 'think' it was the lab?! None of this makes any sense.

I agree Luckyme.. it just seems like whatever happened to the baby had to have taken longer than a few minutes, making its parents incredibly negligent.

i'm with you luckyme... i bet the puppy shook it around like a rag doll. needless to say,in my opinion, the parents are to blame, the dog(s) shouldn't be punished by death and theres got to be more to this story (the baby had to be crying or the dog had to be making growling noises)how senseless

CoralAmber - I wondered the same thing when I read this. How did this happen so fast that the parents didn't hear anything? Something is not right with this story. The parents should definitely be held responsible.

i dont get it - how did they conclude that it's the lab - and not the pug?i've had a lab and my lab would never harm anyone/anything at all.she's really gentle with kids...it's the parents fault - i dont get why the puppy has to be put to sleep.
