Permanent Birth Control For Husband or Wife?

When couples are finished having kids, many consider a permanent birth control procedure from the woman having her "tubes tied" to the man getting a vasectomy. Fifty-eight percent of lilsugar readers said they'd consider the Essure option that doesn't require any cutting. But, we're curious if permanent birth control falls on the husband or wife in your family?

Vasectomy IS the easiest for everyone from a medical standpoint. It is also the most economical. Downtime for recovery is slight compared to female interventions.I tend to tell patients that it is not an issue of bravery but one of commonsense. Most men think clearer when it is their wallet they are concerned about. I guess that sounds a bit sexist or crass---but the reality is another child is often an expensive "oops"

"the vasectomy because it was less invasive, easier recovery time with less complications both short and long term that could occur" The statement is so true, and the burden is on the woman for childbirth, so it should be the man's turn, but so many of them are whimps, or just "too macho" to have one. It just bugs!

I agree Mac about there needing to be an "other" option. In our case my husband had a vasectomy but it wasn't for the reason stated in the poll. We opted for the vasectomy because it was less invasive, easier recovery time with less complications both short and long term that could occur.

I feel at this point it should be who ever can get an easier procedure without horrendous side affects. I think I needed an "other" option in the poll.

after trying to have my tubes tied with the second cesarean, and only coming home with one tube tied, hubby went for a vasectomy. had i heard of essure first, i would have totally tried it-- it seems really simple. one thing a vasectomy has got going for it, is that it is reversible. (just in case!)

My husband has actually already volunteered to have a vasectomy after our next kid. He said it was only fair since I had to do all the painful childbirth. And even with the less painful option we both feel that I have spent more than my fair share of time in the stirrups.

i'd say it's the man's responsibility....it was like that in my family (my dad got the vasectomy when i was younger)...and for obvious reasons because a women having her tubes tied is a much larger surgical procedure...but even with this new option, i'd have him do it!
