The Family Bed: Do You Like Co-Sleeping?

There's nothing like watching your baby sleep, but what happens when he ends up in your bed — all the time! Whether parents should allow their child to lie with them is one debate, but the bond created from doing so is another. Even mothers who are against co-sleeping or the family bed often admit that there's nothing sweeter than seeing their youngster in the slumber state. What's your opinion?

We don't co-sleep, never have, and never will. All four of our boys slept in their own crib in their own room the very first night they came home. We do not base our parenting decisions solely on what is cute or what makes us/kids feel good. Co-sleeping is dangerous and does not promote healthy marriage relations. ;-)

I don't cosleep because i am a VERY restless sleeper. I wake up over 10 times a night, and toss and turn during those until I get back to sleep. I keep the kiddos up when they sleep with us. My 2 year old sneaks into bed in the early morning, but my 8 month old sleeps in his crib. He is a really cuddly happy boy while awake, but when hes asleep he wants to stretch out and roll around. He is happiest when put down to sleep on his own in his crib. The total opposite from his sister, who has just as much trouble sleeping as I do.

Yes, but not because they're sweet when they're sleeping. It's because it's what I feel has been right for us so far. It's not something I think is necessary for everyone or anything, both child and parent have to be comfortable with it. And a baby knows just as well as an adult if it wants to sleep cuddled or not. With five kids, I've never had any problems with kicking or other nighttime gymnastics. We haven't had a crib since my first was a few months old and it became apparent that he'd sleep with us until it became time for his own regular sized bed. We've kept it in the attic in the event that another child isn't a cosleeper, but so far haven't used it again.

We still co-sleep with our daughter who is 2 1/2. So far no head-butting or kicking...but I will never say never! She feels comforted when she sleeps with us and so far we haven't had any issues.

I co-slept with my daughter for about a year and a half. I have been kicked, punched, head-butted; awoken by tiny fingers in my nose; been used as a piece of furniture; and then there were the diaper blowouts. If I had it to do all over again, my little one would have stayed in her crib. But now she's in her bed and I'm in mine, and the only awakenings I get are of the vocal kind: "Mom, does Santa Claus go to Pun Bob's house? You have to don't sleep and tell me because I am curious!" :eyeroll:

What's the worst is when they are older. Apparently my niece is a great kicker! Good for a soccer ball, not so much for my back!
