Are You Ditching Date Night to Stash Cash?

While President Obama may have declared the economy has stepped back from the brink, families are still playing it safe and trying to save a buck when possible. Many couples I know who used to have standing date nights have cut back on the sitter and have started inviting friends over for dinner in an effort to stash some cash. Has the recession caused you to cut back on dates with your hubby?

we try to save money for this stuff by cutting out other things - like my hubby's text books and my personal reading. we've been using Bookswim, which is like a Netflix but for books. Worth a try - we're saving a lot for date night!

We have date night every Friday. Sometimes we'll eat out, sometimes we'll stay home and watch a movie, sometimes we'll just go out for dessert. It's just nice to have a night where we pay attention to each other! We only have one sweet little baby so we usually just bring him along.

We cut way back on eating out - from once a week or so to every 4-6 (and sometimes even 8) weeks. But we made the change a few years ago (not in light of the recent economy) when we bought a house and had our Son, finances tightened up a lot during that year. We still have frequent date nights with just the two of us, but they tend to be dinner in (with our Son spending the night at my Parents) followed by going out for Coffee or a drink. Much more affordable for us than a full dinner out. We also have a monthly "Rotating Dinner" on the second Saturday of each month with a group of 7 other couples. Our Son spends the night with my Parents those nights. Each couple in the group signs up for a month and hosts an evening - appetizers, dinner and dessert (the guests bring the booze). It's a lot of work when it's your turn to host, but so worth it. We look forward to it every month!

We need a date night desperately, but are saving for a new house and trying to get a new car all before babe #2 comes in August. We are taking a weekend out of town with our daughter in a few weeks so hopefully that helps with our stress levels. I can also get out more now that it's summer. So that helps too.

We try and have date nights at least 4-6 times a month sometimes we are lucky and we get more, my MIL always encourages us to have date nights away from the kids, so most of the time we take her up on the offer my mom will offer as well. We also have dates with my daughter alone and then with my son alone.

No way we go out every chance we get. It really is important to us. I dont really get a day off with my two kids and my hubby works hard. So at the end of the day if we can go out and do something by ourselves we do!

Oh, hell no! First off, we get very few date nights a year given our family lives in another state and we don't yet have a babysitter we trust. So we definitely take advantage of any time we do get when family is visiting. This past weekend we had our first date night since January and we didn't worry about the money and went to a swanky wine bar and really enjoyed ourselves. If we were lucky enough to get regular date nights it might be a different story, but we are so desperate when they come around that we definitely splurge!
