Octuplets Make 14 Children For Southern California Family!

Eight might be more babies than many mamas can handle, but for the Southern California woman who just birthed octuplets — it appears she already had her hands full. Recent reports say that the newborn multiples have six older siblings (including one set of twins).

The children and their mother live with the grandparents who are overwhelmed and caring for the young charges while their daughter and the infants remain hospitalized. No comment was made as to whether or not the mother took fertility drugs.

So I was reading a BBC article about a recent interview with her, and I thought it was pretty telling. It says she tried for seven years to get pregnant before she has IVF for her oldest kid, who is 7. She's 33 now. So if my math is correct, she started trying to get pregnant at age 19. That sounds pathological. Either she really needs mental help or she needs to realize that her wants and desires are not the most important thing in the world - this problem of hers now affects 14 other lives. I'm a little disappointed in her mom for just standing by (probably even enabling) and not making her daughter get the help she apparently needs.

She had 14 embryos created in the very beginning. She did not want to terminate those lives. So she has had invitro for the first 6 and then decided to go back in and have the remaining 8 implanted. Not what I would do, but to each their own. She isn't married, but all the 14 children have the same father.

I read somewhere that she wants to be on Oprah or interviewed by Diane Swayer, and that from now on she wants to be paid to be interviewed The article also said she was studying to be a tv child expert or something like that, anyway the woman wanted to be on tv.

macgirl, I was just going to say something about that. I was wondering if she wanted a reality show. I really hope that isn't true...what a sad reason to add to your already large family.

I was reading about it today...apparently some doctor DID implant that many embryos, then later gave her the option of "selectively reducing" the number, but she refused that procedure because it was "painful". Like it's not painful growing up with fifteen other kids and an irresponsible mother...

There was a LOT of talk on the news radio about her wanting a reality show. There was also talk that she was on welfare. I really hope neither of those are true. On a side note I hate that we can no longer trust the "news". I might as well go to TMZ for all my "news".

i'm with most of you-i am pretty sure you can get clomid online from canada (hence the ? about no rx).i do think that this seems very suspicious- like a ploy for fame & $. i hope i'm wrong because how selfish can one be?!?

this sounds so wrong, on so many levels. there is no way any doctor implanted 8 embryos in her. not a chance...i wonder if you can buy clomid or other fertility drugs online, w/o a scrip. i can't imagine any fertility doc agreeing to prescribe these drugs to a woman w/ 6 kids under 8. i'm glad the babies are healthy, but come on.

I read on cnn that the woman has a husband who is a contract worker and is scheduled to be sent back to Iraq soon. It said that the woman's mother is helping with the remaining children...

Since this is local to me this is all over the news here. Lots of speculation about this woman who is reported to be a SINGLE mother living with her parents. I just don't understand why you would do this. The first 6 are already not getting the care they need. Even if it isn't invitro, isn't there some ethics on handing out fertility drugs?? Can anyone just walk into a doctor and say "I'm a single mom with no means to support myself or my six children but I would like some fertility drugs". It's just sad.

Agreed...this sounds like a really irresponsible/selfish situation. Her husband works in iraq and she lives with her parents. how can they know they'll be able to provide for all these kids? what if they end up on welfare? it'll be our problem as taxpayers then... She makes the jolie-pitts look like they have restraint (and plus, they adopted).

somethings fishy about this story. Either she REALLY LOVES children or shes plain ol'crazy. 14 kids under the age of 8, no money, living with parent!? Thats really selfish.

a part of this story is missing. very odd. i would think if you had 6 kids under 8 that would be enough kids, and having fertility treatments to have more seems extreme. so WHY is she so determined to have so many kids? it will be interesting to find out.

it makes 14 children for a SINGLE MOTHER living with her PARENTS in a 3 BEDROOM HOUSE!!! She was not implanted with 8 embryos (and if she was shame on that doctor), no reputable fertility doctor would do that (and I work with some of the best, so i know thier ethical obligations to that). What likely happened is she was on fertility drugs, was producing a dumpload of eggs and had sex, which is always a bad idea. Doctors always council women when going through these treatments to refrain from sex at those times, for fear of multiple births. I hope that they are all healthy, that they all have great lives, but I also hope the press ignores this obvious attempt at reaching for fame for this mom.
