What it is: The newest princess to enter the Disney fold is Sofia the First, a little girl (voiced by Modern Family's Ariel Winter) who quickly enters the world of royalty when her mom, Queen Miranda (voiced by Grey's Anatomy's Sara Ramirez), marries the king. Sofia and her preschool viewers will learn about the glamorous and confusing world of royalty with the help of some familiar Disney characters at the Royal Prep Academy. Along the way there will be life lessons to be learned (how to fit in, the importance of getting along with siblings, etc.) and some typical glittery Disney fun.
Why we want to see it: We're big fans of Jake and the Never Land Pirates and the way the show has introduced younger tots to the world of Peter Pan — without any of the scary business typically found in Disney movies. Sofia seems to be following that format, only using princesses instead of pirates here.
When it debuts: Sofia will be introduced to viewers in a movie this Fall, and a full series will debut early next year.
