UPPAbaby made the biggest news at the ABC Kids Expo with the unveiling of its first car seat — the Mesa ($280)— which may just be the easiest car seat to install, ever. Having struggled to install infant car seat bases for two kids, I'd all but given up (thank goodness for husbands willing to wrestle with the base and LATCHes), but the Mesa Infant Car Seat changes all of that. Their new SmartSecure system features self-retracting mini LATCH connectors and a tightness indicator that only require a quick, light push for proper installation — I installed the model in less than 20 seconds, honest.
Other features include a Spandex canopy with built-in SPF, a wedge that makes it suitable for preemies and all babies under 11 pounds, a harness that does not need to be rethreaded, so it can be adjusted from the inside, and included adapters to make it compatible with older Vista strollers and all current Vista and Cruz buggies. Right now, it is only compatible with UPPAbaby strollers, but if you own one, this should be the car seat for you. The Mesa will be available in March 2013.
