If you're a breastfeeding mom (and if your schedule allows it), hold off on investing in an electric breast pump until you have a good idea of what your milk supply will be. While a basic electric pump will do the trick for many, some prefer the speed and efficiency of a rented hospital-grade pump, and others with milk to spare find that a small, manual pump is sufficient.
Do, however, give yourself at least a couple of weeks to "practice" with your pump before returning to work. Establishing a routine and becoming comfortable with your pump will make the transition a lot easier.
