My Son the Nudist

At 2 years old, is there really anything wrong with a child running around in his birthday suit? Ever since my son has been able to tear off the tabs of his diaper, he's liked to lounge free around our house. It isn't a daily occurrence and is getting more and more infrequent as he gets older, but I figure if he's happy and confident, why force him into a pair of sweats? As a mom, I don't see him basking in the freedom of not being clothed as any big deal but am surprised by how conservative other people are about it.

Since his streaking is limited to our apartment and only witnessed by our family and close friends, I doubt I'll take issue with it unless he's still roaming around in the buff as a teenager. One of my favorite memories from when I was little is of my cousin and I running around her house stark nude singing "diarrhea! diarrhea!" I used to be a nudist, and so did she. My friend just came back from Long Islan City in NJ where she let her 14 month old son strip down nude at the beach. She was then informed by her MIL that he HAD to wear clothes at the beach - that it was against the RULES for him to be nude. Can this be right? He's still a baby!!!

I agree with all of the above. It must be nice to get out of those diapers for a change! My daughter loves to be naked, and I have no problem with it. She's only 13 months. Once she hits teenage years, it might be a different story though!

I think all tots go through this stage, its no big deal. They will grow out of it. Both of my boys were streakers, I think they're just more comfortable that way, which I'm sure those diapers are not so comfortable anyway! Can you blame them? Lol! :)

he's a kid - who cares. my biggest concern would be if he's nude inside that he might go to the bathroom on the carpet!

Ha, my son is also a nudist. He's 4, it's a habit he loves, but am sure glad all kids seem to have that tendency. Every time we arrived home, he always took off everything LOL and ran around naked until we made him put some pants on to go outside in the yard (we got real nosy neighbors around).

I think most little ones love being nekkid at one point or another. My daughter has become obsessed with taking her shirt off. She's watched her Daddy and Uncle do it now that it's summer and there's no stopping her once she sees them all bare-chested.

my boys (4 and 2) love being naked, especially outside. it's hot here and sometimes when they are done with the kiddie pool, i let them take off their swimsuits and play naked in our backyard. it's no big deal.

I read that NYT story and couldn't figure out why so many people were uptight. I say let kids be kids and enjoy being as they are naturally. My mom used to let me dance around naked during summer rainstorms — I must have been five or younger — and those are some of my happy childhood memories. Like you, though, I'd take issue with a teenager wanting to streak. But little ones? Nah. Let 'em be.

My littlest cousin loved to be nude and my uber-conservative Grandparents would freak out over it. My Granddad would run and cover my eyes, even though I was 25. It was crazy because I changed his diapers. Obviously I don't care.
