A member of the LilSugar Community is wondering if she's missing out on the mother-daughter relationship as the mother of boys. She wrote in to our anonymous A Place to Vent group, saying:

"A son's a son til he takes a wife. A daughter's a daughter for the rest of her life." As the mother of three sons, I am told this time and time again. Do you think it still holds true?

Well it never did and it doesn't now; it's sexist. Most young people become less needy of their parents when they move away from the town their parents live in, regardless of whether it was a marriage, a job, or any other reason to move away.

I'm afraid in my case it certainly holds true. After our wedding, my husband visited his parents as rarely as possible and hardly even wants to see them. It's not that he doesn't love them.. he does.. he's just so happy with his new family that his parents don't matter anymore. Whereas we go to see my family at least once a week.. sometimes more often. We have a very close relationship with them, and he doesn't ever mind going to see them.
