Mother of Septuplets Hasn't Held Them Yet

When each of my children was born, the doctor handed them to me right after they arrived. While I wouldn't have minded if my husband had been offered the first hold, it was that moment when my eyes connected with those of my offspring's that I will never forget. I was shocked to learn that an Egyptian mother who gave birth to septuplets over the weekend had yet to cradle them. The report said:

A day after giving birth to septuplets, a 27-year-old Egyptian woman said Sunday she's only seen her babies on television and hopes to hold them and name them soon.

A medical emergency (the mother bled during her c-section) and hospital limitations (lack of incubators to accommodate the new babies) led to this delay. Medical professionals aside, who was the first to hold your baby?

my husband held our daughter first. I had her naturally but had to be stitched up.. after I got the ok.. then he reluctantly handed her over. I could not imagine going as long as this woman has without being able to hold my baby or babies. Although, I can't imagine popping out so many either..haha

i had a c section with my daughter and i was only able to see her. her father held her first. i was a little pissed at that..im not going to lie!then i had to wait till i could get up and walk which was almost 2 days later to go and see her; since she was born with complications they werent able to bring her to me! that was depressing. then when i had my boy again i couldnt really hold him because of the c section so hubby held him first again. they finished me up and took me back to the room and we found out that he didnt breathe right away (premature lungs) so they had to take him to the NICU. but the nurse sneaked him up to my room once he was breathing right and gave him to me to hold. i thought it was he sweetest thing! i couldnt believe how nice she was (had a horrible experience with my first so i didnt expect much)! i walked much sooner with my second c section so i got to see him sooner.

My older daughter was born at 34 weeks by c-section, and so my hubby, parents, in-laws & sister all got to hold her first- she had to stay in the NICU and I couldn't walk to see her until about 18 hours after the birth.My little one was born at 25 weeks, so she is also in the NICU, but I got to hold her first- since she was so unstable in the beginning, no one held her at all. She was also on a high-frequency (oscillating) respirator & couldn't be held. Once she graduated to the regular respirator I held her, but that was a full week after she was born. My husband finally got to hold her the following week (since he was already back at work and couldn't visit often. This past weekend, my older one got to hold her sister's hand for the first time, which was awesome!

My husband got to hold both my sons first. My oldest was taken away for oxygen so my husband brought him to me after he was checked out and breathing on his own. With my younger son there was meconium in the fluid and he was taken to the NICU. My husband went to stay with him and I got to hold him about 8 hours later. I did get to hold my daughter first. Her birth was fine so they placed her on my stomach as soon as she was born.

When my little guy was born they took him right away to make sure everything was a-okay (he was born 4 weeks early) and then I think my husband carried him to me after he was all checked out. I like that my husband got to really hold him first because I already had a beautiful bond with the little bundle of joy and I wanted my hubby to have the same connection. Plus, I still to this day think that a slimed up little naked baby in my arms would gross me out a little- even if he was mine...

My husband. I had a c-section and I didn't get to hold my son til I was in recovery. I definitely wish I had been able to hold him right after he was born before he was cleaned and clothed.

Wow Greggie, your first two births sound fairly traumatic :-/ With both my babies they popped them out and handed them to me all nude and slippery ;-) I don't think I would have cared who they handed them to (my husband or myself). It wasn't anything I really thought about ahead of time.

My husband held him briefly in the operating room before they took the baby away. I didn't even get to see him until about 6 hours later. My daughter was our only stress-free birth. My husband held her almost as soon as she came out, then he got to take her to the nursery and stay with her until I came out of recovery and went to my room.
