Middle Schoolers Engage in Oral Sex During Math Class

A substitute math teacher in Connecticut didn't put two and two together. Under her supervision in math class, two eighth grade students at Pulaski Middle School in New Britain engaged in an oral sex act. As classmates watched, one supposedly taped the act on a camera phone. The footage is now rumored to be on YouTube. While the students' conduct was wildly inappropriate, the teacher must have had blinders on. Who do you think is to blame?

if that sub was paying attiton she would have seen the kids tryin to block something going on. what what she doing not to see this??? Its not really crazy cause you can get away with a lot in high school and teacher never know. they should pay attition more.

Everyone involved is at fault - the students, their parents, the sub, whoever trained/did not train the sub, whoever hired the sub, and society in general. What a huge mess! The actions these students took and the lack of action the sub took are SYMPTOMS of bigger problems that need to be dealt with at the root of the problem - counseling, anyone?

Kids are out of control these days! And I honestly believe that part of the problem is that teachers can't really punish their students. Detention isn't a big deal anymore and neither is seeing the dean. Most parents aren't as active in their kids lives as they should be. Therefore lacking guidence. And kids don't fear or respect adults like they should. Constantly back talking to teachers, partents, etc ... if I did that to my mom she would have made sure I never did it again! These kids are crying for attention and guidence. No one is listening ... so this kind of behavior arises. It's sad and society has got to change this.

Blame the parents and expel the students. That's highly inappropriate. WOW. Also, fire the substitute because as soon as the body shields in my classes went up, the subs always investigated. She was just being plain lazy!

OMG... let's start with the parents! But how can a teacher have such little control over her class that she does not know what each student is doing. News like this one make me sad.

This is sick, I can't believe those kids. I mean who does that in front of other people? And to be honest, I don't think it would be that hard to hide. One kid under the desk, if the teach is sitting at their desk watching, it would just look like everything was normal. And if they were all working on Projects or group things, it would be even easier to hide. While yes the teacher should've been paying more attention I think the blame DEFINITELY goes to the kids. Sounds like they planned it out and took advantage of a clueless sub.

I'm a sub too and it really is pretty difficult. The students definitely gang up on you, but if I saw a group of students shielding some other students I would find out what was going on. But it's hard to place blame when we don't know the circumstances. Lickety Split is right, what if they were working on a project in groups?

Clueless sub, for sure. But the blame has got to be on the perpetrators. Sounds like that is a large portion of the class. You couldn't pay me enough to be a teacher. Dealing with my own kids through the teen years is something I dread.

well way back when i was in 8th grade we didn't even have genitals with which to orally copulate. back then all we had to get excited by were wooden sailing ships in large glass bottles daguerreotypes of men's bare hands. it was a different time.

This is going to sound awful, but when I was in 8th grade, a lot of my classmates were engaging in sexual acts. Not blatantly in front of teachers or other adults, but hallways, buses, bathrooms, closets... and frequently. I'm 26 now so this isn't that long ago, nor is it that shocking. IMHO, of course. I tell you though, things like this (videos myspace youtube) make me so afraid to have my own children. I can't IMAGINE growing up like that where anything you say or do can be broadcast for millions to see. I can't imagine going through high school like that, let alone elementary school.

I was a substitute teacher and middle school was the worst. That age group was a nightmare. They do what they want, won't do what they're told, and are intentionally defiant because they know that teacher, much less a substitute, can't do anything about it.

I think we need to know what class it was before we start judging. What if it was oral sex class? Let's hold off before we start hurling accusations.

I agree with lily8206. Even if they were not in a classrom those kids are still doing that. The fact that they did it as a show raises even more concerns. Them and their parents need to be addressed not the teacher.

i'm sure the substitute knew that something was going on, but probably assumed it was the same old tricks kids play when the teacher is away...she likely noticed the "shield" made by bodies, and knew the kids weren't actually doing math homework, but i'm sure it's a very tough job, and she was just doing the best she could given the conspiratory nature of the class...i'm sure she had no idea that was they were conspiring to do was such a disgusting, degrading, and illegal actshe shouldn't be fired over the incident. rather, the parents need to address the underlying issues of these young children, and the school needs to take measures to improve sex ed, self esteem, and routine and good behaviour in the classroom. i'm sure the poor teacher will be scared out of the profession, however, given the public outcry and i'm sure the negative reaction of parents who won't be able to take responsibility for their children's actions and who will, no doubt, play the blame game, unfairly i might add
