Heartthrob Matthew McConaughey and girlfriend Camila Alves announced the birth of a baby boy yesterday. According to People, Levi Alves McConaughey met his parents face-to-face on Monday, July 7, at 6:22 p.m.
The proud new father explained the name Levi to OK!:
Levi was another name for the apostle Matthew in The Bible. They were, in fact, two names for the same person. . . Our son was born at 6:22 pm, and this particular time represents my favorite verse in the book of Matthew in The Bible: 'If thy eye be single, thy whole body will be full of light.'
In reference to the middle name, Matthew said, "We wanted to incorporate her [Camila's] family name."
It was a profound and life changing day for the couple. To see how the actor summed up his feelings, read more.
Matthew summed up his feelings saying:
We welcome Levi Alves McConaughey into this wonderful life and look forward to living in it with him. In the mean time and all times, just keep livin'.
Levi shares his birthday with Sunday Rose Kidman Urban — daughter of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. Maybe the two tots will grow up teaching each other about surfing and singing.
Congratulations to Camila and Matthew!

4I honestly think he's gonna have a Brazilian first name and Matthew as his middle name.
Levi Alves McConaughey
5CONGRATS! To Camilla and Mr. Sexiest Man Alive...LOL
6LOVE the name Levi!!!
7Baby Boy McConaughey was named LEVI
8Not as crazy as i thought it was going to be.
9Congratulations to them. Cute name. I love how they did the last name. I think Brad and Angie have started another tread. The kids have both our last name. So cute. I really like it and it such a good idea.
10Congrats to them.
11Their son is gonna look gorgeous.
im not too crazy about the name.
I lke "love angelina" said Brad & Angie sure have started a tread, all the new born kids seem to have both their parents's names (the Jolie-Pitt,Kiman-Urban,Alves McConaughey).Nice.
It's actually pretty traditional and common to give the child the mother's maiden name as a middle name.
12I love how they picked it - such thought and meaning behind it.
It is not a trend. My daughter is 8 and she has my maiden name as well as my husbands name.
13Here in Brasil it is almost an offense not to put the mother's name in the baby's name. It's not a trend, it is very traditional and ordinary.
14Levi is a great name, it's not going to sound strange here. My dad has a friend called Levi, actually
Great NAME!
15levi is one of my favorite boy names- he'll be quite a cutie!
16Great name, and a good meaning behind it!
17a good strong name, can't wait to see the baby!
18That's great to read all the meaning behind it. When I first saw it, I was afraid they were naming him after jeans.
Looking forward to seeing the tyke. I bet he's beautiful.
19I really like the name Levi and I think her last name is perfect as a middle name for their son.
20yay omg. this is like celeb baby number 567, they are just popping them out right and left over the few years......
21I think they have always been popping them out but no one ever cared before... then HELLO TMZ.
22Interesting. I love the meaning to his name. Congrats to them.
23Levi is a BEAUTIFUL name.
24capugo, what do you mean? Do you really live in Brazil? "it is almost an offense not to put the mother's name (...)"??? Maybe for you, but it's NOT common to give the child the mother's maiden name as a middle name.
Suspiria, yes I really live in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro. I meant it was almost an offense here, at least. I know it's not common in some other countries, but here it is. The baby always gets mom's family name. It's just a different culture, i'm not saying it's right or wrong.
25great name and great meaning
26i am surprised that he gave the meaning rigth off the bat. some celebrities are sooo secretive that they dont reveal anything.
congrats!!!!!!! i am happy for them!!!
can't wait to see hte little bugger!!!!

27There's nothing new or odd about using the mother's maiden name as a middle name. Half my friends growing up had their mother's maiden or some other family surname as a middle name. Maybe it's a Southern thing.
28But capugo... I live in Brazil too... (not in Rio)...
29And I don't think it's so common, I have a friend, and her second name is the surname of her mother, but I don't know so many people...
I am not saying it is "strange" here, I am just saying it is not SO common as you said... I don't think it's "almost an offense here"...
